I have just discovered Kiva, an organization that helps entrepreneurs. Kiva's mission is to connect people through lending for the sake of alleviating poverty. I have just funded two entrepreneurs, a total of $50. I love this opportunity to help. On the other hand, there's a possible marketing gold mine here. By helping others I get a profile, and my picture will be at all the projects I help fund. In my profile I get a link to my homepage. Kiva.org has PR 8 and you can become featured at the home page. This is kiva.org
That's awesome. If you help fund a project, it would be very interesting to hear about it. I have helped fund these two: http://www.kiva.org/app.php?page=businesses&action=about&id=169551 http://www.kiva.org/app.php?page=businesses&action=about&id=169147
As far as I know, they pay it back to kiva and kiva will pay us back. Kiva has field officers that will receive the money. It's written on each project about when they'll pay you back and if it's backed by a guarantee by kiva. For instance, one of the entrepreneurs I funded will pay back the whole amount in 14 months, but his repayment schedule is monthly. I think that means that I'll get a small amount on a monthly basis. We will also get the progress reports on his project and his repayments. It's also important to read the following about each project/entrepreneur: Currency exchange loss and default protection. In some projects you can lose money because of the currency exchange rates, and I think that default protection means that kiva covers any losses. You can read more about it on this guys profile, it's one of the guys I helped fund: http://tinyurl.com/ycpv63g
