When a directory accepts an article it, or the people who run it, don't know if the article has appeared elsewhere, e.g. on a blog. Their main concern is that it is the original work of the person claiming authorship.

Most people who run blogs also submit their blog entries, if they are articles of a reasonable length and focused on a specific keyword phrase, to various article directories in order to increase exposure and attract visitors and potential customers through the search engines.

That's why you'll sometimes see the same article on an article directory as on a blog.

    Hope this explains things.
