nofollow BackLinks...

I would just like to inform people that google DOES acknowledge backlinks with the nofollow attribute.

Maybe they do not pass PR but they do take note that the site is linking to the other site.

Heard the same thing too. Page rank might not be impacted, but they can help search engine ranks

No, Google don't ignore the link, they just ignore the Page Rank juice, so link counts

I can't find the blog where I read about this 4-5 weeks ago, when I find it will post the url

This chart on wiki shows how the different search engines handle nofollow links.

There is a video of Matt Cutts (head of google spam team) talking about the value of nofollow links here

I think Google doesnt ignore no follow links completely since it is giving traffic but who really knows they might indeed acknowledging this no follow links without our knowledge?

But as far as I know no follow has no substance when it comes to PR ranking but I might be wrong

    very old info.

It's a link, simple HTML code, of course Google know it.

IMHO, the only reason for use nofollow is playing safe on potential bad neighbors and bring bad karma.

For link juice, here is the thing:

If you have 10 OBL, every link has 10% link juice (theory, in fact link locates fronter in HTML code gets more juice). No matter nofollow or not, every link is get 10% juice. Use nofollow will not give other link more juice!

So, for better internet, don't use nofollow if the site you linked is ok.

I just played around with nofollow.

I wanted the Home link to be ignored, but the other links to the homepage that were keyworded to be acknowledged. Soon after I put nofollow onto my navigations Home link they removed the index listing. Strange. I'll have to see if it comes back.

Although this thread is about nofollow links, I can't resist posting my admittedly limited experience with dofollow links.

    A few months ago I changed the links in my blog (MyDentalHealthCompanion.com) from nofollow to dofollow in an attempt to get more publicity. What a joke. Naturally it increased the amount of comments I got to my blog, but the vast majority of those comments were so overtly spammy that I have to reject 80% of them. For the most part, these obviously spam-comments read something like this;

"Great blog. I intend to come back off often. Keep blogging!"

    WTF.

I routinely attempt to promote a website of mine via posting comments on dofollow blogs but I always make sure I actually READ the posting first and then comment I always try to say something both relevant as well as informational. The result of this diligence is that I've never had a comment rejected by a blog owner. (Hooray for me)

Anyway, if you're thinking about switching the comments your blog has from nofollow to dofollow... don't!

my speculation is that nofollow link does account for something... it may not be as valuable as dofollow link...i would further state that.. textual reference also accounts for something.. even though the link is not clickable... search engines have evolved so rapidly it would not surprise me that they have thousands of factors to take into consideration when ranking websites..
