Help me out, I am new to Wordpress

Hi to all the DP members!!!!

I have just created a new blog under WordPress and want to start it off as soon as possible. But, as I am completely ignorant of WordPress, I thought of asking some of you for help. Here are the problems I am facing:

    1) How can I embed videos on that site? I mean I know I require a plugin for that, but the problem is whenever I am trying to install a plugin, most of those are showing a message "Unknown Error". What to do in this case? By the way, I am using WordPress latest version (3.1). What should be the most suitable plugin?

    2) I tried to put AdSense code in my site. But, I do not know how to configure the advertisement using my publisher id. So, I need help on that front. I tried using one plugin named as "AdSense Manager" but then again, an error was shown.

    3) I am also using a plugin "Adsense under Image" , with its help automatically adsense advertisements are being shown under the images used in my site. My question is how to configure those ads for my convenience and how to put my publisher id in those ads?

I desperately need some help from you friends.

NB: If I posted this thread in wrong category, then I apologize and will ask the moderators to move this thread to appropriate location.

    Regards.

Hi - Did you make your blog under Wordpress.com or have you downloaded wordpress and put it on your own domain?
I am not sure about .com

But if it on your own domain, you can either Upload to the Library or you can actually copy the embed code from youtube.com (under the information box of the person) and put it in the HTML section of a page or post. There are plugins, but you don't always need to use one.

Since @lakelover answered your #1 and #3 questions, here's a solution for you for #2 question:

You don't have to use plugins always to do the job for you. It's better if your theme is already equipped with those features you need. However, if you know a bit of HTML, you may encode the Adsense code into the theme by yourself. It's easy, really. Say, if you want to add the adsense code in your posts, just open your single.php file and add your code there.

    Hope that helps :)

Yet another wrong answer from webservices4india. Do you even read the threads that you post in?

I am using WordPress.org one and using it with help of my own domain.

Well, thanks for the suggestion, but I am looking for a plugin that is supported as a widget and on which I can put the embed code into.

Thanks for the suggestion. But, the problem is the placement. With help of widgets, I can easily place them according to my own convenience. The same is not applicable in case of inserting codes. At least, I do not how to do it.

I am not asking about ADSENSE registration. Please first have a look at the thread and then only post, only if you can though. If you cannot, better not use "POST QUICK REPLY" feature to add an irrelevant one. You already have a lot of posts, why just increasing post count with unnecessary posts?

go to post > add new > in html view u can put ur video code, manually.

for adsense u can put in ur theme so u can have more control over ad placement. now how to place ads ? u require little bit of php and html or css knowledge or use adman plugin that is simple but not cool as theme editing.

I hope this wordpress tutorial series will help u alot in learning.

    THANKS

Actually I could have sworn that I had posted a solution here, right before webservices4india's.

    1) If you;re using the self hosted version, you should just be able to copy and paste the embed codes. If you;re using the rich text editor, the one with the icons along the top, you need to be on the HTML tab, not the Visual one, and don;t switch between them after adding the code. I tell folks usually to add in the embed code last as wordpress will occasionally (ie often) edit the code and cause problems.

2 and 3) Your publisher ID is provided by Google. You'll have to get it from them. There should be fields within those plugins to add the ID code in there.

Most color changes are made on Google's end now a days anyway so it's best to make changes there.

    Hope this helps,

The tutorial was really very helpful for me. It solved some of the queries that I had actually.
I know, but I need someone to name them for me. Googling is no doubt a good idea, but then again mentioning specific names of the plug ins may have helped me more.
A really helpful piece of advice. Thanks a lot. With time, I am also learning things, a bit slow though. I just learned how to add my publisher id in the plug-ins after reading your post.
