I'm thinking of going into Australia specifially. How do you go about getting a site ranked on Australia Google? It will be a brand new .com domain.

I can't go down the .com.au route as I'm not an Aussie, i'm in the UK.

    Thanks;)

If you thinking of a targeting a particular country you want to get that country's domain to stand the best chance.

That's tricky for Australia as you'd need a .com.au which has (Australian) residency requirements or similar.

Use Australia hosting and their servers. You can also register domain .au...

    1. A .com.au can involve setting up a business entity in Australia but you can still try as this is good.
    2. Specify Australia as targeted country in Google Webmaster Tools.
    3. Specify a local address, business name, and local contact phone numbers if you can. If you have a local address, then you can list your site on google maps.
    4. Content copy, spellings and language - "Vacation" is called in US and searchers type "holiday" in Australia. Familiarize yourself with local marketing, or you can engage local copywriters.
    5. Seek local inbound links.
    6. Get your site listed in local directories - http://www.yellowpages.com.au/ is a good local Aus. directory.
List yourself in regional sections in the dirs. like DMOZ, Yahoo, and BestOfTheWeb.
    7. Comprehensive Australian directory - Webwombat.com.au
    8. Submit Press releases to local news and information channels.

you can get an AU domain name without being aussie but its kind of a hassle. you need to register a business with the local government and get a tax ID. once you have your business registration (you can do all online or via mail), you can register a domain.

if thats not an option, then login to google webmaster tool and specify the geo as AU for your domain. do proper link building and as much link as possible from AU domains or domains running on AU IPs.
