Yes, I agree, typically a brand new site can take anywhere from 2 days to over a week.

It usually helps if you work on backlinking (like social bookmarking or a blog/forum post). Even pinging the URLs where the backlinks originate from should encourage the spiders to index it quicker.

Just get 1 inbound link from a site that has page rank. That's all you need.

In a week your site should be indexed. The more back links you have, the faster your site will get indexed.

You need to update your website regularly google will take a note of the duration you create new pages according to that it will cache, if you take cnn.com or bbc.co.uk google cache pages every minute.

Normally it could take a week. But ive heard cases where sites have not been indexed for over a month. Build a few back links and it should get indexed soon.

I recently had two sites get indexed. One took one day, and one took 5 days. They both had quite a few backlinks from the get go, but the one that got indexed in one day, initially had a feature forum thread link on a forum that got alot of hits... One good link can get you almost immediately indexed.

You can get indexed fast by building a good link or 2 to your site. Try social bookmarking your site. But don't build too many links all at once and vary your anchor text. Your site should be indexed soon :)

Also if you are using wordpress make sure the "block search engines" option is switched off in the privacy settings section.

right, getting ONE good backlink gets you indexed real quick.

i also submitted site maps, that in my opinion only works as specified when the spiders actually crawl your site, but otherwise, submitting a sitemap does not stimulate google to crawl ur site again automatically.

Do correct me if i am wrong?

It depends on various thing such as:
    - inbound links
    - quality of that links
    -speed of adding new content
    -age of the site
    ....
