Hi, wondering if any of you has experience, how does allowing blog comments with do-follow effect SEO? will PR drain away? will SERP position drift away? any thoughts?
You won't lose PageRank by allowing links out. The downside is the possibility of being targeted by spammers. If you can moderate so that you frequently delete anything spammy, I'd say try it. There are too many sites and blogs that have been nagged into nofollow for no good reason - if your blog has built up a community of regular commenters, why not allow the link to be counted?
Spam will be your biggest issue by far, I have some idle blogs with 5k spam comments lol due to do-follow
As long as you moderate it appropriately you can actually expect a lot of good comments from people that are drawn to your blog specifically due to it being dofollow. The question is whether you want more traffic which includes more spam or less spam and less traffic. If you do make it dofollow make sure to advertise it as one or else you wont be able to take advantage of the traffic benefits.
this is what I was thinking... I already receive around 5K spam weekly, even with no-follow... I use akisment which catches everything, no need to worry about spam at this moment. or there are other tricks that I'm not aware? I moderate all comments anyways, so why not, I'm thinking to try it out for the sake of good comments about advertising, where should I start?
Yeah spamming is the main problem to be faced by a web owner for dofollow site.And it doesn't affect SERP.
I guess the only implication would be spamming but you can control it anyway as long as you implement blog moderation or probably you can use anti spam software which is being used by many blog owner like askimet
I dont think you would lose pagerank if you make your blog dofollow. The one thing that can happen is that you are going to get lots and lots of comments from people trying to get a backlink to their sites. Some of those comments could be spammy, so you will need to look out for them.
okay lets say that spam isn't an issue... My worries now: #1. How do I make wordpress comments do-follow? do I need to hack core files or is template specific? #2. How do I market this feature... where do I post, is there some do-follow blog directory? people with experience please tell me how to get the word out?
You can get dofollow wp plugins easily, just search. There are dofollow search engines and directories you can add your site to.
