Will Change in Title Tag affect SERP

I am getting my main keyword to the top of the SERP's. I am in position 7 right now for a very competetive keyword(s). For instance, my keyword is ABC. ABC also happens to be my first 3 words in my title tag on my homepage.

I would like to alter my title tag to a more broad, but similar keyword. If I do this, will it have a major affect on my SERP for that specific keyword(s)?

Keep in mind that my high PR backlinks from PR5+ are all using the anchor text for my target keyword. Thanks in advance for any advice

 

Yes it will have an effect, title tag has a high score in onsite SEO so if you remove your keywords it will have an effect in your SERP

 

I've also heard that it is not harmful to have long title tags.

 

I had a similar concern and many SEO "experts" told me that as long the URL remains the same, changing the title on a blog post should not have a negative impact.

 

Title is a most important factor. They can decide your rank. Carefully with title.

 

Dont change whats working.

Its very likely that your serp rank would get effected. Title is considered very important.

If you need to rank for other keywords, do link building for them and put them in content.

I believe the question was about home page title not title of a blog post

 

This is correct. For example, if my blog's name was "United States real estate", and I had a blog post titled "Miami Foreclosure Condos", would it be more beneficial for me to title tag the page as for example:

Miami Foreclosure Condos | Florida Real Estate | United States homes

OR

United States Real Estate | Miami Foreclosure Condos

I was recently told that the name of your blog should almost always come first, followed by the article topic/post. Can someone explain why if this is the case? Thank you

 

Don't experiment and don't change things that work. That's my advice.

 

Best to have your primary keyword first in the title tag, followed by another term you are also targetting. I wouldn't remove your main keyword from the title tag - it is very possible it could have a negative impact.

 

No doubt a good onpage factor involves your domain name and yout title tag. I would not experiment if i were you.

 

you can use a title with 80 char max..................whatever the keywords you want to be on top rankings...........put it there in first 67 char.................

I have not heard this. In fact I have heard the opposite and think you need to keep it within reason.

 

do not change the "title" after once the search engines have crawled thru. If you change and next time around they see a different title, it drops the ranking and it happened to me once before. However you can add more content to the same article and change the title as long as you keep the URL the same.

Now I also wonder if I can append to an existing title but not change the original title?

Well a small change wont effect a lot but a full title change could effect it a lot

 

If you want to change the whole title, you'll see a huge drop in SERP.
But, making small changes like fixing a typo and adding or removing a word or two won't make much difference.

 

It is better to extend your title to include more keywords you look for. Perhaps you include the older one too.

 

If there is small change with same key words, it won't impact otherwise it will. Just have a look on the title of net-games.biz they just changed it slightly and there is no impact on SE ranking.
