Decent traffic but low earnings!

Discussion in 'AdSense' started by Apple.Summers, Jan 3, 2010.

I recently got loads of traffic via a few sources but the earnings stay really low, what do you think I'm doing wrong? Are the placements incorrect or are the palettes not working properly?

    Please review.

Sounds like non targeted traffic to me. Maybe there not interested in your ads or the placement is bad.

You have no idea what your visitors want. Traffic without intent is nothing.

You only have one sidebar ad, and you're running in placed in the middle of your other widgets. You should try text links, it'll look more blended into the site and may gain you more clicks

I personally don't like your ads. Put more text links and then blend it to your template.

Your ad is not visible without scrolling, it is not well integrated (colors) and you put sponsors above your ads. Better remove it altogether, it would be exactly the same.
Or, improve your ad placement, imagine this adsense was your ad and you could place it wherever you'd like.

If you have a decent amount of traffic, you might consider a different type of ads. Diversify. I see the Google ads, but why not put some AdBrite ads on there and make money from the traffic flow? AdBrite is a CPM network, and I personally like them. You get a check when you hit $5. Give them a shot, especially if you have decent traffic levels.

    what is your 'decent traffic'?

here could gives you some picture about earning with adsense.

I got about 1500 unique visitors a day and earn vary from $1 - $5 a day. If you have lower than this, don't expect much income. It also different in each category of website. I have about 3 different sites)

One day, I got a traffic from some really high traffic website because they put a link of my blog post on it, I got about 7,000 unique visitors that day, earning $16.xx. (please note that was a traffic from only 1 link for one page on that website)

Do you see how different it could be?

it is very easy to know why. You just don't have any ads which are visible for visitor after opening your website. He needs to scroll down to see it. Try posting adsense links under the menu at the top and some big square before first news.

Thanks to everyone who gave feedback.

@tonyinabox - I get around 1K unique hits a day and sometimes when I get linked to blogs & digg front page stories' comments, I get around 6-9K unique hits. The digg frontpage stories has only worked out once or twice. I don't make $1-5 a day with my unique 1K hits, I usually make 30-50p. Is the color palette making a huge difference? Should I modify the theme around?

First of all you need to show more adsense ads. Don't expect too much from digg users since most of them have adblocker, but tests proved that:

    1. Websites with ads in left sidebar get more clicks that websites with sidebar in right side ( logic: they tend to start reading a website from left to right , not the reverse )
    2. You need ads in your content, on single post pages i suggest having a large ad at the begining of article, and the text to flow near it. In post list page, put some ads between posts. You also need a ad spot in the middle of every article. If you do so, i bet you will earn more decent. For your traffic you need at least 50$/day

Thank you for your feedback thedark. I've updated the post page so that the timthumb plugin doesn't show the thumbnail for the post. This gives me more space for a bigger advert. Does this look better?

Your ads placement is bad. Put ads above the fold.
