ad_network PHP File Update

    There is an updated ad_network PHP file for everyone...

    It's not an urgently required update, but you should still update, as the old ones will stop working someday.

    The main thing this adds is the ability to gather impression data. So once people get updated, you will be able to see the number of real end-user impressions you are getting for your various ads.

    This also simplifies the setup a little bit (you pick the number of ads you want to display and also what you want to use to separate them). Because of that, the outputting with the $ad_network[x] variables is not needed. You simply use a single $ad_network variable for everything that gets output.

    Updated the file and validated and my weights dropped to zero in one of my clients sites.

    The new ads display fine but I am wondering if the fact the planet datacenter is down has put part of google api out of commission and a hint to anyone who plans to validate their weight today.

    I do not think there is anything wrong with shawns code etc... Let me know if anyone else also has seen same problem today...

    It would be unrelated to the new code. The new code would not be able to affect weight at all.

    The new format with just one variable is not very good. It's too limiting in the ability to split ads for narrow formats and makes the layout look terrible.

    Please put it back the way it was.

    /me hacks the file in the mean time.

    That's what I thought ... I used my API key instead of my clients and still got zero weight. I think it's google's servers at planet

    You should be able to apply the same formatting as before.
    This is what I do

    echo '<br><DIV align=center class=main_text style="TEXT-DECORATION: none">';
    echo $ad_network;
    echo '</DIV>';

    Code (markup):

    Yes... the impression data will be per ad, per day (chartable) when it's available.

    My site just took a 50% cut in weight with the new code. Is this normal?

    As for formating, I mean 5 ads in a row, or 5 ads with a break after them looks bad. The first is a string that is too long for a narrow style and gets broken(line brake) in odd places. The second it a vertical list. The format I prefer is 3 on one line and two on the next for the total of 5.

    I fixed the format problem myself, that's of no worry really.

    I am however concerned about the 50% weight loss.

    Thanks for checking in. One site of ours lost about 5K and one over 50%. Hopefully it will work out.

    I've been experiencing the the weight ups/downs the past week or so. One minute it's 50k, the next it's zero (if I manually validate). Just keep trying every 5-10 minutes until it goes back, then let it be once it's back.

    I usually wait 48 hours to install new code. So I guess I will wait that long before I worry since I went and did it. There may be something that is missing on my end. I'll wait for the tech to finish the release support before I file a ticket or anything if that's what we do. Not a big deal for now.

    I noticed today at g-metrics all of the sites I monitor went to 0, so there was definitely something going on outside of the network.

    I don't see why impressions mean much. Becaause even if the text is tiny at the bottom of a page and no one sees it, it will still count as an impression. What's really needed is clickthroughs.

    You have the ability to monitor click-throughs on your end though (your web logs).
