I am wondering what specifically a lens is on Squidoo? I have signed up for an account and edited my profile information, and I am about to create a lens but I realized I don't know what it is. Can you have more than one lens per account? Is each lens like one article you post and you get your own article URL and such, or maybe I'm looking at Squidoo the wrong way. Hopefully someone can clear this up for me
Yeah a lens is basically an article on Squidoo. The difference is you can add different modules for pictures, videos, amazon products, and some other stuff. I believe you can have as many lenses as you want in your account.
So for my lenses, I could write a few paragraphs from my articles and then link back to the original article in my blog? I want to do this so I can spin some of my content and have Google pick it up on Squidoo, plus to give me a backlink to some of my articles from a high-PR site like Squidoo.
I'm not 100% positive on how Squidoo views duplicate content. I tried it with Hubpages and they let me post the article but they don't allow any outgoing links so I can't give my article a backlink. Hubpages has been a huge pain in my ass since I first started using it so I'm done with them. I've been wondering the same thing though about Squidoo. I'm sure if you spin the article you will be fine but if you copy and paste it I don't know what they will do. They have been locking a lot of lenses lately from what I've heard so be careful with them.
There are some resources available which are step-by-step guides: 1. Squidoo Essentials which include step-by-step guides to the following: registration,creating your profile, configuring your account, optimizing monetization,organizing your lens frame, developing lens content,creating guestbook, embedding video, embedding photos, RSS set-up, squidoo badge configuration and how to engage the squidoo community 2. Traffic generation with Squidoo which include step-by-step guides to the following: starting new lens, activating about me module, featured lens, customizing blog feed, creating link list, becoming a giant squid, joining a directory, entering a contest, send squid casts, and buying or selling your lens. If you would like the links to these let me know. These are both free resources (I think you can get upgraded versions of them but I'm not sure and if you can I don't know how much they actually cost). I'm just using the free ones.
Just had a look at the price of the above two, but can't see anything how much they cost (think they are free). I did find another resource called Traffic through Social Media Content Syndication which is $37 but then you get as a bonus the Squidoo Essentials as well as membership to the Traffic Explosion Club So it will probably depend on what you want to use your Squidoo lens for.

Just what I was looking for myself, someone from Squidoo to answer the questions . How do you guys deal with duplicate content if it's your own content? For example, if I write a unique and useful article for Ezine Articles and I want to also submit it to Squidoo and make a lens out of it, is that OK or will my lens get locked? I know it may not get indexed by Google and all that but if I'm doing it to provide some good information to people on Squidoo and also to build a link back to my site that's fine with me. Ok thank you. I was just asking because I've heard a lot of people had been getting their lenses locked lately and I didn't want that to happen to mine.
A squidoo lens is like a page of your own. You can put affiliate links on a squidoo lens as well as a good content, and use article marketing to get traffic to the lens, eventually your lens will be indexed by the search engines and you will get even more traffic (if you have good keywords in the lens).
I have been seeing reports and some tests which show that backlinks from squidoo don't help your site much at all (if at all). These reports and tests are several years old though. Anyone have updated information regarding this? And what about hubpages?
Question, overall how effective have people found Squidoo in promoting websites and in building quality links ?
That's what I'm wondering too. Is google still undervaluing links from squidoo? I am mostly interested in squidoo and hubpages as potential backlink building tools. But I don't want to waste my time on it if those backlinks don't count for anything.
I got to create a lens in squidoo. I felt that lens is a thing which can used as a open forum. But it is somehow better than my expectation.
