    These days Press Release submission is not working, last three months back I submitted press release with my related keywords to 30 sites and I got 20 approvals also, but my position was not improved. Its stable on 5th position from last 5 months.. so I will not agree with your opinion.

    What worked for me is writing useful software for webmasters and giving it away for free.
    Each free install gives you backlinks.

    Here's the result of this strategy for one of my clients:

    As a result of above - 1 page website (8 month old domain) was ranked on the first page of google for $10+/click keyphrases above ~80m+ competing pages.

    It's not cheap but nothing could beat that of you coming with bare hands (new website, no prior SEO) on a competitive markets.

    Maybe I'll write a book sometimes about this...
