A little motivation for new webmasters.

I'm just writing this to give the new webmasters not doing so well some motivation, because when I first started out in the online business, I just thought I would never succeed because everyone else is doing so well. I just didn't know how people did anything really, but I did a lot of research and learned some things and had to do this all on my own. It was hard work, and no matter how much I worked my site still only got around 2-5 visits per day.

I then opened a blog that was in the niche of design inspiration because I just wanted to do something that I had a passion for and experience in, as I'm a designer (not the blog in my signature link, this site is old and has been closed down). I ended up learning more about SEO and link building, and started to apply them. I did this for so long and it still didn't do much for traffic, but it just brought in more comments once I set my blog to DoFollow. One day I wanted to check where my site was ranking in the SE's and I searched for 'design inspiration'. Much to my surprise, my site was on the #12 position! It was much better than what I thought it would be. A little while later I noticed that all of those links I built up took effect and my site FINALLY had some PR. It was PR1, that was awesome to me, because I was new to the online business. I had that in only a month and a half of the site being open! And a few days later my site crawled up to the #6 spot! I posted this on a couple forums that I was excited and somebody posted about a month later and said it was up to PR2! I hadn't seen that though because I started having computer problems and my laptop was not working for a couple months, then the site got shut down because I couldn't pay for the hosting.

So what I'm really trying to say is that it may seem like you're overworking yourself and not getting good results, but in reality, this is a long process and it's going to take a while to see some improvement, but hard work pays off. If you are working your @$$ off, then you will see results eventually, you always do. Don't think that you can't be a successful webmaster because I know you can be if you put your mind to it.

The more you learn, the better you will do at it. I know it's kind of boring but the best advice for all newbies is just to read around the forums on what other people are doing to make money and drive traffic to their websites. Join other webmaster forums too and ask questions here and on the other forums, there's always someone out there that will help you. If you need any help you can PM me if you want to.

    I hope this helps!

90% (or even more) of the people trying to make money fail. And 90% of those telling that they make money are actually trying to sell you something. There are very few people actually making BIG money on the internet but, as spineshank said, it's easy to actually make an income.

All it takes is to pick something and stay with it till you master the strings. Everyone's bombarded with "GET RICH IN 1 MONTH" schemes, obviously they spend money on those eBooks, they fail and things come back to normal in their lives.

It takes 1 week to learn how to ride a bike, 3 months to learn how to drive etc. THERE IS NO such thing as getting rich overnight. Stop baiting that and read the forums. Ask if you're unsure.

Just thought to help...anyways...90% will still be 90% and that's why some of us are doing better. Can't blaim nature..

Very true, thank you for your input. The 90% that are failing are doing so probably because they are not following the right instructions the people actually making money put right in front of them. There will always be a failing percent though, as even if everyone was succeeding, there will still be a larger percentage making way more than you.

To be making mad cash like the big time marketers do, you would have to be in the business for decades most likely, because experienced marketers will be more trusted because they know what they are doing and have been doing it for soooo long.

My idea is to do something you like, and you know someone will also like it and buy that from you.

And you'll get motivated automatically when money start flowing in.

well you can go and see the adsense earnings poll, it pretty much sums up the prectenages of people that earn money, most 50% earn below $100 a month :) it's really is a question of willingness to put effort and to make money online. it's or you have it (you put all effort you got) or you don't (you are lazy and most likely to fail)

PR is not really a good indication on how well you're doing since it's extremely easy to get to pr3 with just a few high pr inbound links.

You are very correct, but it's still exciting for new webmasters to finally get some PR on their site. The site is definitely worth more with PR as well, if you were into the site flipping business, you could get a sites PR up and sell it for probably at least 2x what you normally would sell it for, depending on the site and the niche.

You just have to battle on, keep going, it will take months and months and months of work...no quick fixes, no easy path. If you want to get something out, you have to put something in :)

4 years and got my first adsense cheque for 60 gbp :)

It's always good to hear a success story. Hard work pays in the end, hopefully the end isn't too far ahead anymore ;)
