PR drop from 4 to 0, Why???

Discussion in 'SEO' started by axemedia, Aug 25, 2006.

Last PR update on of my sites went from a PR4 to a PR0. Why would this be?

I am not really concerned about it, too much. Has not seemd to have any effect on SERP placement. But I am curious as to why this would be. I know there are PR5 pages linking to that site, so why a 0 now.

I'm guessing its just a glitch with Goog and will likely be back to normal on next update. At least that is what i am thinking.

    Any Ideas?

Maybe G is in a middle of an update, and you just happen to load your site with the wrong datacenter PR. Hey, it can happen.

There are actually many possible reasons why a PR drop could take place.
If you do a site: search and you can find your listing at least you know you are not banned.

The last PR update was dodgy to say the least. Alot of new websites increased to silly PR's with very little links pointing to it, so my guess is that the PR is now what it should be.

Without knowing the URL though we are unable to give a specific answer.

Same here, I have a pr4 site that dropped to pr0. Some days the index is not indexed, only a few internals, other days the index page will show up.

It's actually a client/friend's site about their concrete business. No adsense/ypn, no retail products. Just information. Has links from a few concrete manufacturers sites that all have good PR and have been around for years. At one time, it ranked well for it's keywords. Only "questionable" thing we ever did with it was use the coop on it (not implying that's the reason), but it's been away from that for 5-6 months now.

Maybe you are not waiting for your url to load? Possibly a missing image link?

I have no idea what it could be, but its been like this for a few weeks, but the site is still climbing in Goog SERPS, on page 2 now for main term i'm targeting. Just used a Page Rank checker tool that checks accross multiple datacenters and it is showing PR 3 on all data centers meanwhile my firefox extension tool shows 0. Anyways, As long as my SERPS are fine I'm happy.

I have the same problem: my sites been at PR4 for over 8 years. Now its at 0 in all data canters expect maybe 2 or 3?!?! Its been at 0 for a couple months now. I really don't do any major SEO and only exchange links with related sites.

A while back I made the mistake when I created a site map for the site. I mistakenly uploaded the XML file sitemap your supposed to actually submit to Google using the sitemap creator program Google suggests. I have replaced it with a regular site map now. I dont think that would have anything to do with it, but thats the only SEO related thing I've done to the site in years?

    Any Ideas?

    Thanks,

Page rank is so overrated. I've seen several websites with no page rank. Yet, they rank very well in Google and under very competive search terms.
