Well, how much is your bounce rate?

If it is 60% means that 60% of the traffic is lost?

Bounce rate is when a web site visitor only views a single page on a website, that is, the visitor leaves a site without visiting any other pages before a specified session-timeout occurs.

60% shows that 6 out of 10 visitors on your website don't click on second page before closing your website. It is similar to drop and go type of traffic.

Maybe, you can try to provide more relevant information to your visitors and provide some internal links with some attractive anchored keywords to get them surfing on your website.

A high bounce rate can be OK if you have ads on your site as often if one is clicked very quickly it can be classed as a bounce, yet still produced a result. That said a low bounce rate is often better to have as the amount of time spent on a website could be telling Google et al that you have fresh content etc and people like your site.

Mind you I played around with some web pages and have got my bounce rate down from 60% to about 28%, so quite happy.

Add content to your site...use catchy titles that can be seen on the homepage. Sites with huge ad blocks on homepage and those with poor design have the highest bounce rates usually!

Well, you are almost right to define Bounce Rate.
I have almost 40%-60% bounce rate varying day by day depending upon the traffic demography.

So, what do you think how to get it down?
Except writing fresh content, attractive titles, having some suitable graphics? All such things are there. Anything special?

Yes, bounce rate can be higher and preferred to have low bounce rate. You are lucky enough to get it down significantly. Would you like to share your experience?

Well, content is somehow rigid. I can't get much freshness in content but I can do somehow which I do. Apart from this, what can you do?

For e-commerce sites, bounce rate less then 50% in ok.

For service providing sites, the bounce rate should be less than 40%..

BTW, bounce rate for my site is 35%.

If your bounce rate is 60% means your 60% visitors come on your site and go back without any action. Its not good for your site.

Check you website load time - if a site is very slow, many people leave it. Google Webmaster Tools now has Website Performance tool.
