    Hello

If you were using wordpress to build a static 12 page website would you use posts or pages for the content?

So the homepage would be set under "reading settings" to a static page

an example would be a hotel website which featured 12 location pages for the same hotel around the country

Does it matter? both the same for this purpose?

    any advantages/disadvantages to using either?

    Thanks

You can use Wordpress MU for that.

I would use pages I think. I would use a static page as the index, and then write pages for the rest of the 12 hotel locations. I can't come up with any disadvantages right now, but I think posts are pinged - and pages not - but I could be wrong.

OK, so posts are better with content that becomes not that important or interesting over time.
Pages are better with content that stays current and interesting for a much longer time.

Posts are meant to get buried as other new ones are published.

Pages are meant to be reachable at all times in an easy manner.

So if the content you are talking about gets updated regularly, go with posts if it's more static and updates are rare, go with pages. In the latter case, posts could come in handy for announcements and other news, these would keep the website fresh.

    :)
