Hey everyone! I have a site that's ranks at the bottom of the first page on Google for a certain keyword, and I'd like to get up to 3 or higher, if possible. I've been at 7 to 9 for the last 3-4 months, but I can't seem to climb any higher. If you were in this situation, what strategies would you use to get into the top 3? I realize that there are many different factors and variables involved, but generally speaking what's the best way to climb higher? Thanks!
First thing I would do would be to build more one way links to it using the keyword you want to rank for as anchor text. I recommend Angela's backlink packets to get high PR one way backlinks.
he is right you need a lot of quality backlinks to your site if you need to go up and you need to defeat the top 3 in their number of backlinks
Do you run any other websites that have good backlinks? Maybe you should start linking those to your site using anchor text that contains the same keyword that you are trying to rank better with, and then apply the same SEO methods to those other sites as you are applying to the site you are trying to rank better with. Just a note, anchor text is extremely important.
How do we work on securing quality backlinks? I have a site in the same situation - its been hovering around #10 for months and I'd love to push it up. Is it true that getting links from .edu and .gov domains is very helpful? I'll look into the linked packet service, too.
This past week - I saw that we're in the top 10 as well (#10) - I started looking at our competition. These guys are getting backlinks from CBSNews dot com and USAToday dot com. It will take a miracle to beat these guys. Sometimes - you may have to get started in another niche ( but don't give up on the one your already in).
Go to yahoo site explorer and also use the limited backlinks shown with link:www.sitename for your competitors - you are likely to find some gem social bm sites, directories related to your niche, blogs and forums plus sites you can advertise your services with as well.
Thanks everyone for your responses. I'm new to this forum, but so far, I'm really impressed with the quality of information, and the friendliness of it's members. Thanks again
once you achieve a solid ranking, it just happens to be #8 for you, you will need some good quality backlinks tthat will help you climb higher. just about any backlinks may not cut it anymore. do something out of ordinary and build some quality links and over time you will climb higher. what have you done so far in terms of backlinks btw?
Article writing and social bookmarking, mainly. I'd like to think I also have some quality content on the site as well that people link to. I do have Market Samurai, but I can't seem to tell exactly why Google ranks me lower than other sites that have less page and domain backlinks than I do. How can one easily get a thousand or more quality backlinks? (I know that's a loaded question, lol).
Concentrate on getting more unique IP, domain, low outbound links, not bad neighbourhood sites, backlinks with proper anchored keywords. I can suggest some methods to get nice number of backlinks: - Dofollow blog commenting on relevant topics - Forum posting on several forums with a signature pointing to your site, make sure the forum is related to your website. - Get someone to write a review about your website - Be a guest writer on related blogs and get a backlinks from there too. It is good to keep your backlinks at moderate level. A sudden increase in backlinks may trigger spam alert and it may lead to some SEO penalty. So, be wise and moderate when it comes to link building.
Would you say that link building with something like socialmarker.com or bookmarking demon may lead to being penalized somehow?
