Gambling ads ???

Hi. I run a search today on msn and I found a lot of PPC for gambling websites. How is this possible ??

 

As far as I know, none of the major PPC engines forbid gambling, adult, or other controversial themes for advertisers - it's only on the publisher end (i.e. AdSense, etc.) that these topics are off limits.

What I see when I view these URLs is so many sponsored results, it's hard to find the organics.

google and yahoo forbid sites that push online gambling, or link to them. Many people get ads in there that do link to those pages though, I think usually through some form of cloaking or redirection.

MSN has strict guidelines about gambling and adult...however they do not have the best filter list in place so you can usually sneak some terms by.

This isn't adding up for me - I'm not saying it's not correct, I'm just saying I don't understand how it can be true. When I look at the URLs I posted in my previous post, the first sponsored result for each SE has the following attributes:

Yahoo!
Anchor Text - "Winning Tips for Online Gambling"
URL - "www. winningbaccaratsystem.com"

Google
Anchor Text - "Online Casino"
URL - "CeasarsCasinoLive.com"

If their policies truly prohibit online gambling, wouldn't their filters catch this? And these results are not on the right, next to the organic SERPs - they're on the left, above the organic SERPs - prime real estate from a PPC perspective.

Google Yahoo and MSN do not allow sites that are online gambling or that link to them, but giving away free info w/out links in it is okay. It is a sketchy area and many of the sites redirect directly to the top poker sites.

 

Okay, that makes sense - thanks. In other words, It's okay for a site to be gambling-related, as long as no gambling actually takes place on the site. I'll bet there are a lot of redirects from these sites...

i think its only available on MSN, infact they have to do . they might ban it soon as well..

Google allows sites ABOUT gambling (reviews, how to and so on) in Adwords. However, sites that actually offer gambling are against TOS.

This is according to G themselves.

 

Microsoft adCenter has a very strict policy on gambling sites. There are NO boundaries allowed to be crossed when it comes to online gambling. However, informational devices such as books that show you how to play the games are allowed. It is restricted when there is an exchange of money or play money as it is still promoting the act of gambling.

MSN is not in beta as they have launched on May 4th 2006. Overture (Yahoo) and Google both have content guidelines against gambling content, however... they are very lax about how their content is portrayed. They claim that gambling is not allowed, however... you may have it as long as it doesn't interfere with any of their editorial guidelines they have set in place on their faq and editorial pages.

As far as I know, MSN is pulling all ads from MSN Search that are links to and/or gambling sites specifically. However, if you are a casino in a hotel, but the landing page is strictly for the hotel and on a side note, the casino... that is allowed. It is all in the context of the ad. What is the advertiser trying to sell?
