Why waste time/dollars on SEO?

This is one question, to which I found no suitable answer. When you can invest your promotional funds into PPC and get instant results why so many website owners are indulged in SEO campaigns? It is a common knowledge that for any moderately competitive keyword one would require not less than 6-8 months of professional SEO campaign to get decent ranking on Google. But in PPC every day is a new challenge, you can instant traffic, can change your keywords mid-way, control your budget and calculate ROI, none of these are possible in SEO. But, everyone seems to be pulled towards SEO, can any one explain?

different method works for different people. why people get a job and work for someone else while they can have their own business? just different mindset. besides, PPC can ve very expensive depending on keywords/niche/campaign. where on the other hand, SEO can cost you ZERO if you do it yourself and know what you are doing. even if you outsource some part of it, still you can get an SEO/Link Building campaign running at a fraction of the cost compared to PPC. in the long run, it pays off. some people just do both and get traffic from all the sources they can

    >organic seo is cheaper than ppc
    >organic seo you can do it yourself while ppc would be difficult to handle by himself
    >not all people searching on google click on ppc ads, more clicks are generally on organic results

PPC is not good for long terms, your ads won't appear once you stop paying. Nothing beats organic search engine traffic.

A lot of SEO consists of doing what you'd do anyway - but ensuring that you do it in the most practical way. You're going to have urls, titles for your pages, headers, navigation - it doesn't cost more to make sure you've done this with keywords that are searched for and relevant.
And a lot of other SEO good practice relates to usablity as well as being search engine friendly - low load times, clear navigation, breadcrumb trails etc.
And like bobchrist says - it's "always on" - in PPC if you've run out of budget for the month, scaled back, whatever, that's it, that's your traffic gone - if you've established a good place in serps, you've got an "always on" channel for traffic.

Personally, I find that paying a small amount for SEO is much more sustainable than running constant advertising campaigns. Think about it. If you are bidding for a PPC keyword that is worth some 5$ per click, that is going to cost an arm and a leg. If you invest some SEO, focus on promoting your keywords, not just your primary ones but your secondary keywords, you will earn more than you ever have through PPC.

PPC is not a bad idea for instant traffic but for long terms SEO is better option.
if website is new then start promotion with PPC plus side by side start SEO. after SEO ranking will come stop PPC.

The other point to remember for new domains that may not be indexed, do some good article marketing at some high profile article dorectories. If you use the right keywords and make the article informative and interesting with an effective title, you would very well find that you are ranked through tehse articles before your site is even indexed. That's my good tip for the day. :D

This is a lot like asking what is more important, backlinks or content.

The answer is.... neither. You need to have BOTH.

In a competitive market, the only way you're going to be able to compete is to have BOTH organic traffic as well as paid for targeted traffic.

Pick one over the other at your own peril.

DOnt get me wrong here, I mean, I probably just havent been around long enough to realize yet, but I personally see that targetted traffic can be earned very easily, so the idea of investing cash into this is not realy all that worthwhile. Paying for targeted traffic is not sustainable, if you dont have the backlinks, and the search engine rankins, when you run out of money, your visitors are gone.

I just think that as a whole, earning your traffic is a long term sustainable method rather than paying for a short burst.

You stop your PPC campaigns and what happens? Ugh... no traffic! Not to mention the fact that PPC ads get much fewer clicks when compared to organic results.

How about I put it this way. What is a better long term investment. Spending 100$ on PPC traffic that will last 2 weeks at most, or spending it on something like I have in my sig at the moment, where you will learn a sustainable SEO method that will keep you in top spot on Google?

I mean, its a dodgy example, I know (affiliate link and all), but you get my point right? Its about sustainability. PPC is a long term financial commitment, and with long term SEO, you can rank in all of your keywords, which will in effect give you free PPC traffic.

its logic. In my head anyway. I'll let you all know in a month anyway if it really does work that way. haha
