Keywords vs. key phrases

    Is there a difference between keyword and a key phrase in SEO?

    I think of a keyword as "books on sale" and a key phrase be books on sale (without quotes) would be different.

    So the website would rank differently on Google for a keyword and a key phrase.

    Please correct me if I'm wrong.

    Books is a keyword. Books on sale is a keyword phrase.
    The quotes come into play like this. Searching for "books on sale" returns all pages with that EXACT phrase on it. It is used basically to see your competition.
    Searching without the quotes will return the number of pages that have any of those words on it.

    Hi,

    First one you wrote i.e books on sale is a key phrase; whereas books or any single word is a key word. If you use a single word there might be lot of chances that you get a tough competition, so people try to use key phrase, which actually holds less competition than a keyword.

    Keyword means only one word. Keyword phrase means more than one word as part of the keywords.

    Keyword is just one word. Keyword phrase also known as long-tailed keywords, such as "how to save money"

    What you are mentioned is advance search operator supported by Google - if you put KW in double quotes, it will give the pages which has KW as same what you mentioned..

    If you have KW in your title as such (KW is URL - good :) ), the SERP for that KW will shoe your site as one among the result..
