I Need More Traffic, But I Ran Out of Techniques

So I have my blog up and running, and its getting pretty decent results in the search engines... for now. But right now I need more traffic, how would I go about doing that. Here's what I've done so far.

Make a squidoo page, create a blogspot, sign up for technorati, sign up for blogcatalog, distribute my rss feed.

I'm not sure what else to do.

Call your local newspaper, offer them a hot lead on a story about your company, make sure in exchange for the story they include a link to your site.

Everybody says they need traffic. When I look at what they are offering to their visitors however, I wonder why they bother at all. All the traffic in the world doesn't matter if you don't have something of real value to offer.

Submit press releases to free sites like PRLog

You could start social marketing for instant results. However you should also focus on getting loyal reader base; ultimately they are ones gonna dictate your success.

Sign up for twitter account and give substantial posts. People will follow you if you give informative posts. Avoid spamming the site, people hate this. In the long run, your followers will visit your site if they will find you interesting.

You're going to need a LOT more traffic than that. I'm talking about pulling hundreds and hundreds of visitors.

A blog has to stay current, so you're going to have to keep adding posts. Bookmark your posts. Go to a site called Onlywire.com. It's free. Or you can pay. No need to pay, really.

Sign up for just about all of the social bookmarking sites there. Then copy and paste the HTML script to your blog. You'll get a bookmark button pop up.

Every time you have a new post (it doesn't have to be every day), then send it out to all the bookmarking sites at once. I've found that as a good way to get me some initial traffic.

If you can afford to pay for an article submitter, then you can try article bot by Icansoftware. A guy in the warrior forum made it. I can't use it because it's not Mac compatible, but people said they liked it. $26 I think.

You can write articles and have them distributed to various directories across the internet. This creates backlinks to your sites and more opportunities for traffic to come to your blog or squidoo.

I recommend that your blog becomes its own hub of traffic to your Squidoo. To see how a blog can be used, read the posts off Darren Rowse's Problogger.net. Really good information. Insightful ways to use your blog. Gives you ideas on how to set yourself up.

If at all possible, see how you can build a list for long term. First start with Problogger.

    BTW...

Looking at your blog, how are you planning to monetize your site? I don't think that the Adsense on there is going to be enough. Perhaps you can add an affiliate link to Amazon comedy DVDs. Do you know when the next comedian is coming to your town? Maybe you can add that. What about open mike nights and how to handle them? How to handle hecklers. The kind of jokes certain people should never, ever talk about. The kind of material you should never pass up in a comedy routine. Content like that would really get people looking at your site and possibly bookmarking it. You want to be more than just a site with videos here and there.

I noticed your tag cloud with Dave Chappelle as the largest. Write an article about Dave Chappelle, something unique, not just a bio, maybe a style he's best known for. Send a link back to the Dave Chappelle page of your blog. Do the same with the next biggest tag. Then the next biggest. Five or so would be good, just enough to get people to your site.

Articles are a very good way indeed but another quick way is to also tell your friends. Spread the word to your friends, facebook, and your social media sites. Then, the amount of visitors will automatically increase.

You have a very interesting topic to work with. You're on the right track if you follow everyone's advice. You need to be showing up everywhere.

Have you ever considered trying to actually do a phone interview with some of the comedians, and running a podcast of the interviews? If you get an opportunity to visit with any of them live, and can do 5 minute video interview and throw it on the assorted Video sites could also be great.

One thing I'm wondering after visiting your site. What are you going to do with the traffic? I don't see any significant monetization going on there. Are you going to sell DVD's, Tickets, Books?
