Another use for a great Directory Script

I posted this on the main support forums for phpld, but I also wanted to share with all the rest of the directory owners what you can do with your directory scripts besides having a directory ;)

First of all, I'd like to say thank you to David and Boby for the assist in some mods and coding questions. I feel like I've lived and breathed this damn code, but I think it's been worth it

I wanted to do something completely different with this script and thought it would fit a specific application I had in mind. I think I've accomplished that, what do you think?

Also, a big thank you to Vegabond for a GREAT skin.

'Lo and behold http://www.online-recipes.org , a new kind of use for phplinkdirectory!

Currently, I've got a couple of outstanding issues to deal with. One, proper firefox formatting of the css, two, more recipes to be inputted, and three, some of the javascript code for 'select all/unselect all' for the saved recipes isn't functioning..need to check that out.

Also, are there any other users out there that are using phpld for something besides a link directory, like myself? I'd be curious to hear what kind of application you used it for.

*mods- I wasn't sure if this is the appropriate subforum to display this message, so i understand if this gets moved!*

Yeah, nice work. You can do a lot of things with free scripts like this with just a bit of modifying...

Very nice job. I did something similar a while back. With a bit of modification, I have changed phpLD into a bit of a CMS. Tons of content pages, and all database driven and developed in the admin section of phpLD.

All it takes is the initiative that jeeplaw has done.

Thanks for the praise guys, i appreciate it. I'm glad the site came out the way it did. Although the Smarty template language is packed with a bunch of features, it's still not very intuitive and takes a bit to "get into". But once you got it, you got it :)

I can see how someone can make a full blown cms out of this. I'm thinking of integrating a backend article addition component so that I can display articles on the front end. There's definately some tweaking left to do also.

All it would really take is to add a couple of new db fields and some calls from the template. I couldn't imagine it would be that tough.

But right out of hte box, all I did was add one new field to the db, ingredients, and then did a LOT of playing around with the code. If you play with something long enough, you kinda get the feel for things.

All I know is that this took me roughly 4-5 days to do, and I can't wait to think of another project to fit this script into ;)

Jeep, When you get ready to do the article section, send me a PM. I have already done this part and can help you out a bit. My admin section allows me to create full pages of content.

Nice lateral thinking there, very creative. Now you've got me thinking about what else I could do with a directory script.
