What's with this Particular Directory?

This question is most likely for Directory Owners:

I own about 17 Web Directories. All Paid and 3 Free. Most of them are PR-1 - PR-3 and are bringing steady income, but nothing to brag about.

And then there is this one directory I have (my first) PR-0, (used to be PR-5), Alexa now dropped to 772,242, delisted from Google (I think...), cannot even find it under its own name.
And this is the one that brings more income than all of the others combined together. Most (about 90%) paid submissions come from (get this) not even large but huge corporations and SEO companies. I am talking "household names" and brands.

I try to take care of all my directories by devoting enough time to them, but this particular one, I have nothing positive to say about and I never cared much for it.
Horrible looking template and design. The reason I kind of gave up on it was due to change of heart when it comes to it's script. I moved on and developed my own and put all my attention there. I am actually thinking of moving all the links and data to my own script.

What gives? Don't get me wrong - I am not complaining... ;) Did anyone experience anything like this?

Just avoid the directory if it looks fishy or provides no value to your site.

What??? Did you even read the post? He is talking about his own site.

    @contactusa
I am lucky enough to have the same situation with one of my directories, and believe me I am not complaining either. The only difference is that I do like my directory.

I'm not a directory owner, but my guess is that it is on an old directory list somewhere and that list is well circulated. Have you checked referrer logs to see if traffic is coming from a particular page? That page could be the list that others are finding.

BTW: Which directory is it that your talking about?

Sure sounds like you have a golden goose there. Don't kill the goose just to get more eggs.

Sure, we all do. It just proves that PR and anything Google related is pointless.

I really would worry less about alexa ratings and google PR and more about generating traffic for those that list with you. PR and Alexa do neither.

I once owned a directory......out of my 10-12 directories this was no better than those and similarly advertised... but this particular directory used to get one paid submission a week... no other directory did... but the interesting part was the submission was made by one particular company...

i had to sell it later though..

all i had to say was no surprise these things happen

    @ OP

    Remember !
The 25% search traffic still comes from outside Google!

Sure - start-ups by individuals and small corporations would initially target just Google. Once they get well established there (like those multinational corporations & household names) - they start looking for other 25% share of the search traffic.

And other SEs don't have PR issue. So, no wonder! My two Google penalized directories - though not enough - still keep me in Greens - months in and months out.;)

From the sound of this statement no wonder the directory has taken a fall. Why would you stop caring for a directory that is bringing you the most revenue? I'm .

The whole point is that it didn't take a fall. In Google? I never cared for Google that much. As long as there is traffic and income - screw Google. I will just move the Database to my own script and install a new template.

Hello contactusa- I would like to take a crack at this one.

Could it be that you are doing better than expected with that particular directory because you did a better job promoting that directory?

Directory promotion is not about SEO. It is all about developing a relationship with customers, name recognition, and repeat business.

maybe your directory has a very good and relevant content and is well-known by a group of webmasters. :)

I also have a site, now is Pr1 , it was Pr3 some time ago, but this didnt affected the site`s traffic, in fact the traffic went up ! Now i have something like 1300 UV/day and very few links are still pointing to this site ....
