Commenting on Other Blogs for Traffic - Does it Work?

Can you drive traffic to your site/blog by going to other blogs and making comments and attaching a link to your blog? Is this a way to get backlinks? If so, what are the best methods for doing this?

The only method that some people use is commenting on blogs to get backlinks. I haven't seen anyone base all their traffic from blogs, I doubt you'll get major traffic. Maybe 1-2 visitors per day if it's a popular blog.

It's only one way to get backlinks, not that effective. It also still depends on the content of your comments,be
careful so that you will not be regarded as spamming.

I used to blog on big money making blogs to get traffic to my internet marketing blog. But the time/profit ratio isn't good. I spent hours of work and only earn few cents.

But with posting on dofollow blogs you can get few quite quality one-way links, but it is time-consuming, too. At the moment I have quite a lot of blogs in my Google Reader and I read it because I need new ideas and tips and I comment only if I have sth in mind I would like to share. And it brings me some trafficm but nothing special.

You get traffic from google. You use blog commenting to gain backlinks and increase ranking in google and then your traffic will come from there.

I have my doubts whether this has any positive effect for SEO because most blogs use no follow links (rel=nofollow). I’m not Google but my guess is by commenting on a blog using nofollow links the only traffic you will get is if someone visiting to blog clicks on your link.

Expecting traffic from blog comments is useless. Only the webmaster may visit your site.

Don't just comment on blogs, contact the webmaster
and ask them if you can be a guest blogger, most of
webmasters will grant you a permission as a contributor
    on their blogs.

This is better than just commenting coz you can pitch
a nice link going back to your site.

It is good for backlinks.... If you need traffic, then use forums and use a signature pointing to your site.

If you're commenting to a do follow blog then you can get backlinks, but commenting from a no follow blog you will get traffic.

There are still sites that are dofollow. So submitting comments on those sites still contributes to your backlinking progress.

When it comes to getting people visit your site because of your comment, you have to post a good comment. One that readers will find useful. If they read that your comment is useful, possibility is they would click n your homepage to know more about you.

That's one of the most relevant ways to increase your inbound link numbers while helping your rankings with your website, but some blogs will attach a no-follow attribute to your links, this means Google and other major search engines will not give link weightage to that link but you do get the benefit of traffic.

I think if you have chosen a quality blog with high traffic and interesting content in it like Matt's blog then you will definitely get traffic to your site.
