If google were highly effective at taking spam out of their index, then there would not be as many people trying to spam their way into the index.

Google should hire one person to go thorugh and pluck out these redirect spam sites and report them. Just one person could probably elliminate 100's of these a day and if he is well paid the progress will be rapid. Algorithims can only go so far. and it would help reinforce the 'do no evil' moto they keep preaching about.

the thing is they think they are doing well, but seem to hit quality sites instead , and the spam has less results to conquer... oh well

Google does a hell lot of work everyday to crack down on Spam, it is not just 100 or 200 sites, there are millions of them, Google just doesn't tell you what amount of spam it is deleting off its SERPs each day, it is really bad to see people criticize Google in such a way.

People, you are talking as if Google does no work at all, hiring one person? Well Google has a whole staff dedicated to defacing spam, and they work as well, deleting spam by the minute.

If you are a Google user and want to contribute, and also help Google in fighting spam, to make the Google Search a cleaner place for everybody, why not give your 15 minutes to reporting everyday? If you will report a spam result to Google, it will get right at the attention of the Google staff and it will help you as well as everyone to witness the right content on Google Search

The Complaint form can be found here - www.google.com/contact/spamreport.html . Bookmark it, so that The next time you see a spam result, you can report straight away. I do it myself a lot, and I see results, 60% of the sites I report are gone within 7 days of my report, so a pretty good job is being done.

Most of us already know that.

Why cant they start banning Adsense accounts that reside of scapper spam sites? That would be a start on 'doing a good job' on the fight against spam.

I too use that spam report but they must be listening to your spam reports quicker than mine.

Adsense isn't PPV, so it doesn't really matter, only image ads are PPV and I dont think there are many Image ads on Adsense. Besides, you can also help Google here as well, by reporting spammy sites with adsense by emailing to- . That will help. I have only reported one site to them so far and it does not have Google Ads anymore, I know Google has banned them.

About that spam report thing, give them good details and they'll help ya.

Sorry whats PPV got to do with Spammy Adsense sites?

I dont have time to burn reporting every spammy site that I find which is probably 2-3 per day but if Google want to start paying me for the task I would be more than willing.

Reporting Spammy Adsense sites does nothing which has been widely stated on this forum. I think your the first person I have noticed that says it works.

Okay now Turfsniffer no point of arguing, I also agree with you that Google is not doing the best job to the best of its capabilities.

Also, the PPV question, when a user comes on a spam site, they leave instantly, therefore no income through adsense, however PPV ads pay the spammer.

The problem is that LOTS of users immediatly leave a spammy site via clicking on those PPC ads. Thus there is a lot of money to be made on spammy sites. In fact, I'd expect the eCPM of a spammy site to be much higher than that of a "legititmate" content site.

    A couple of things -

First, KLB is correct. MFA (made for adsense) sites exist solely to get users to click ads. They serve no other purpose. That's the only way an MFA site makes cash.

As for google and spam, why should I help them? It would be like me helping General Motors or Nike. I'm not going to waste time reporting spam to a MULTI-BILLION $$$ corporation. Unless of course they'd like to pay me for my time. I will however email them and complain about it. :) Nothing like a nice 1 minute rant.

The PPC model that google uses is the old Porno PPC model from many years ago (and still going strong). Porn started it and then others, like google, jumped on it and tried to modify it and make it work in the mainstream. It's obvious that Adsense/PPC has created the majority of SE spam problems. Google needs to address that issue. Not me. Not us. I say we keep pounding google with complaints and suggestions and let them do the work cleaning it up.

Then finally, the real question - what incentive does google have for cleaning up SE spam and adsense issues? I can't see any. Unless spam starts costing google money I see no reason for them to end it. Goog's in business to make money, as much as they can, and the PPC business model makes up a huge percentage of their profits. SE spammers contribute to that business model. So IMO, none of this is going away.

There are too many problems to list that crop up if this was implemented. A few that could pop up: Editors accidentally removing legitimate websites, editors abusing priviledges & dmoz-style corruption among such editors.

Unfortunately, while people can make money from spam, it will always exist in some form or another.
