Tips On Getting People To Join My Mailing List?

I had a mailing list of over 2,000 people. I didn't like the script I was using so with Wordpress I set up a new mailing list. Sadly the new list does not allow me to import the subscribers from my old mailing list so I'm having to start from zero.

I'm trying to think of ways to entice people to sign up.

I am currently offering two e-books (one is a beginner's guide to affiliate marketing and the other is about finding killer Adwords) but I'm wondering if that is enough?

I know a lot of people on here have their own mailing lists and was wondering if you would share any tips with me? :)

If you have the old list, send individual mails asking them to sign up for the new list.

    Oops.

I forgot to add in my original post that I spent the best part of this week sending individual emails to all my subscribers inviting them to sign up to the new list. :)

If you are in the make money online niche, JV with others. Join the free giveaways and add your book there.
Give freebies at forums once in a while.
    It all adds up.

I assume your first list is tracked in a SQL format....

export it to CSV...import it to the new sql database...you may have to adjust the csv file a bit to get the right format, but you can have your forms transferred easily using this method.

give them ebooks like you are doing, thats a good start. another thing you can give them is free software. you can find it all over the internet if you do a quick search on google for something like, free "niche keyword" resources or tools.

If you're stuck for things to give away. Try making videos, where possible of the e-Books you already have. People respond to tuition, step by step a lot more. You could use Camtasia (not a plug-just a good product) to do this.
You can then use YouTube to show excerpts of these for more exposure.

Give your eBooks away to eBook Directories too, make sure to include back links in all your eBooks to your squeeze page if you're going to do this.

    A few directories:

    http://www.changethis.com/
    http://www.free-ebooks.net/
    http://www.getfreeebooks.com/
    http://www.ebookjungle.com/

There are loads more, Just google eBook directories.

    Kindest

The only real way to get them to sign up is to give free tips, samples on your site.

Then state something like: "For more on this, join now to see...."

Like e-books, many consider mailing lists "dime a dozen," so you have to first show them that you know what you are talking about, that it's not the same 'ol shit out there.

I don't bother with a mailing list as they are overrated, but this is one of the ways I use to get people to sign up for my services, which is a subscription club.

Also, maybe instead of using the words "maling list," use "club," or "subscription club."

Try to be different in that manner.
