We all people have been listening to videos/interviews by Matt Cutts, he is not doing much except confusing about different SEO thing a month ago he will pass some comments and after and month he will contradict to it.
What do you thing he can covers all the functions google performing right now?

He is just a respected voice of Google but it is not necessary that he is always right.

I've been following him and I can say that he really cutts :D However, I wouldn't be surprised to find out that Google hides some details even from Mr Cutts. In the end, if he splashed out everything, we could all easily game the engine... still we cannot ;)

To my knowledge, the only thing he has changed his view on is how NOFOLLOW worked then vs. now. I don't think even that was a lie on his part or an attempt to mislead. In fact over the past few years, when people asked about nofollow at Pubcon, he ALWAYS told them that using nofollow to PR sculpt a site should be the last thing on your list of optimizations... that is was a VERY fine tuning SEO technique which yielded little if any benefit. And that there were many more things that could typically be done to a site to make rank better that yield much more in the way of SEO benefits than PR sculpting with NOFOLLOW. It wouldn't surprise me at all if the tech team that manages the PR algorithm had changed it without his knowledge...

Something you'll find if you stay in this business long is that SEO techniques that work today might not work next week, next month, or next year... It is not at all unusualy that in 2 years time something in the field of SEO or how Google ranks a page might be completely different... take a 180 degree turn.

I don't think this means he's being dishonest. He has to walk a fine line w/ trying to answer pointed, direct questions about SEO without giving away certain information that Google wants to keep secret. So he has to often simply drop hints rather than giving direct answers.

all the statements and blogposts Matt makes is working as a Google spokesman and all his messages will express how Google WOULD LIKE to see things happen. not neccessarily how THINGS ARE right now. lot of what he says are based on Google's expectation and some statements are so technical and vague that the real answer could be anything. that doesn't mean that his is full of it, lot of what he says are right as well. do your own research and figure out yourself

    Well,

I have been his follower from a long time. I think, he always speaks according to the situation/Current scenario, so things he said in the past may be contradicting now because things have changed a lot dude...!!

    Thanks

Anyone who thinks Matt Cutts wittingly attempts to deceive us has their head up their ass. Its that simple.

I like and appreciate Matt Cutts. I am fully aware that he works for Google, not for us, so he is not ever going to give us the "whole picture" from his insider's standpoint. But I do find him very helpful.

I agree with this. I've always found SEO to have many gray areas. It's not directly black and white as most people would like. Some techniques that worked back then may no longer work now. And some techniques that work for certain websites may not work for others.

That being said, Matt Cutts isn't always correct, but he sure is a reputable individual with a powerful voice in the search engine industry.
