Buying 301 redirect

Discussion in 'Programming' started by broker, Nov 20, 2009.

I need to do a 301 redirect for a website with about 100 pages, and redirect each old page to the new page.

Problem is I do not have access to the previous hosting.
If you have a solution let me know, and your cost and time required to complete the service.

You don't really need the access if you control the current site.

You do need to know the old page names and directory structure if any. Any page that is SE listed should be redirected and 404 errors watched closely to pick up the missing backlinks. That part makes it an ongoing job for a while.

    Sounds impossible.

Assuming you mean that your previous hosting is the old site you wouldn't be able to access anywhere to set up redirects to the new site.

Think about it. If you didn't need access to the old site then you could just redirect all traffic from a big site like google to yours...which is obviously wrong.

One of us has misread the question. I am assuming the OP owns and controls the domain name. This could be as a buy or a drop and just doesn't have the old site to go with the domain.

How about it broker? What was your question?

If you own the domain and you know full links to each of the old page, it is doable.

In need of someone to write about one hundred 301 redirects from an old custom CMS to a new wordpress based site and where the directory portion uses PHPLD. I have the old and new URLS. I just want to make sure that I don't break anything when adding items to the .htaccess files.

A rewrite looks like this (note I am crippling the URL with ():
    RedirectMatch permanent /media_guide.htm (http://)lexkyweb.com/media_guide.php

So the domain has to resolve because the URL is required in the new page to be loaded but is not required in the old URL.

It can't be tested until nameservers are resolved so payment upon redirect working.

May need to do a custom error page for the short term where you list the old URL and provide a link to the new one.

If you just want a a redirect, go to cpanel and do this.
Cpanel > Redirects > Type in the directory you want to redirect, then type in the redirect page you want it to go to.
    Easy. :)

Who did you purchase the domain name with, there are various methods that you can avail of through your DNS control panel. Let us know for further instructions.

Having said that some domain providers only allow basic nameservers services, thats still not a problem as you can use free dns services like zoneedit, once you point the doman name to their nameservers you can do any of the following... http://www.zoneedit.com/

If you are still the owner of the domain then buy new hosting and recreate pages there.
The pages will be available via same 'old' well known URLs and you'll regain SE traffic in short time.

If instead you want to setup new site on another domain and wish your old pages force user go to new site it's quite impossible w/out old pages code modification.

PM me if you need quality hosting, because I give it.
Other than that, your host probably doesn't accept what you need it to. :(
