How to add a favicon in WordPress?

    I now I have to insert this code beetwen the head tags:
    <link rel="shortcut icon" href="mysite.com/favicon.ico">
    <link rel="icon" href="mysite.com/favicon.ico"
    Code (markup):
    My question is in what file I have to add this?

    you have to add this in all the html/php files ..
    IF you have a seperate header file. add it there.

    In the admin panel, go to Presentation → Theme Editor → Header, and add it right above the </head>. :)

    I tried many tools to convert my gif image to favicon.ico it did not work. This one worked http://www.seo-mind.com/favicon-generator/

    Me too using wordpress but I didn't add any code like this.

    I just uploaded the favicon.ico file to the root folder and it is working fine.

    Did you try uploading favicon file to your root folder?

    Yeah, like others have said, you just need to add the code above the <header> tag (usually in header.php), but most modern browsers will automatically fetch the favicon if you put an image named favicon.ico in your root directory. Still a good idea to include the code, tho.

    To apply favicons and even to generate or apply our gravatar as favicon, there are plugins available, its just a matter of few searches.

    I was wondering and I don’t know it yet what it is called for that rectangular part at the beginning of address bar itself. It is much larger than favicon and rectangular in shape like that of paypal site. Do you know what it is called and how to do that?
