Web hosting recommendations for a site of 10,000,000 videos

    Dear all,

    We have a new video site launched nearly, containing more than 10,000,000 free videos and clips. We don't know which hosting plan is good for us (such as Godaddy).

    Does any body has suggestion/recommendations? Really appreciate.

    Pay extra to the current host and stay on them. There will be huge hassle for you to move the content around. Also the hosts should be offshore. "Buy a dedicated server".

    Are you hosting these ten million clips yourself or are they hosted elsewhere?

    If you're going to host them yourself, I'd be looking at either a server cloud install such as gogrid or amazon.

    If you;re just going to link to them, I would think pretty much any host would be fine.

    Start with at least VPS but perhaps dedicated server will be needed. What is the web hosting solution you used before?

    I also think you will be best of with a dedicated server..but suggest to try and avoid moving hosts if possible..though if they can't offer you a bigger or better plan then yes i'd suggest start looking into a dedicated server

    Dedicated server definitely. It's going to be a hassle to move all that content, but it's for the best. I would recommend looking offshore though for legal reasons.

    Dedi or Vps should be the choice, never be under the impression that unlimited bandwidth given out by hosting providers actually exists. And i am just waiting to see some affiliate link pop up here :-D

    I can see that many of them have suggested you a VPS, but as you have mentioned the no. of videos will be hosted on that server i don't think a VPS will take that much load as on a vps you might have to share your server resources like CPU and bandwidth, it may affect the other performances of the VPS hosted on the same node.

    However, instead of VPS if you opt for a fully managed dedicated server, you will have more bandwidth, higher security, excellent server uptime and mostly round the clock technical support. With a dedicated server you will be offered a better network connectivity and servers provided will be from branded companies like Dell and IBM which ensures that your website will run smoothly.

    It looks like VPS of godday is poor with 256M RAM. I guess most of people here are using dedicated server. Could anybody confirm? Thx
