Why be aware of rel="nofollow" for links? Link is a link. Any kind of link have a weigh on search engines.
I might be wrong because I'm new to SEO, but rel="nofollow" simply means Don't follow this link just ignore it.
Some details, I would like to add: 1. Create unique, accurate page titles Don't create titles as welcome to my website. Hello, how are you? Hey this is my web page. Please browse it and don't forget to click on my ads etc. This is nothing but rubbish. Do you understand? OK, so what should one do about it? Write accurate titles. Don't just repeat the keywords. See what content you are going to provide and describe it in not more than 70 words, this is what can be said a good title in my opinion. If you have discussed more than one topic in that specific page write title as subject one | subject two | subject three. 2. Make use of the "description" meta tag <meta name=description> this is used in the head section. It includes but is not limited to the keywords you are using. Use your keywords, but don't use just keywords, tell the people what you are going to present here. If you will write keywords, it will not make a sense. This is what usually shown in the search results under titles. See Google search results and look at what others have done. 3. Improve the structure of your URLs Write SEO friendly URLS. Usually a URL is like that: mypage.com/MyDirectory/mypage.php?action=unknown This is one example of auto generated URLs. Use your common sense, see what Google does. It highlights the keywords you type in search even in your URL. Always have a domain name which means something and having no substandard language in it. For example i4unu4me.com may seem good to you but I will not like that. Have a name such as friendshipforeveryone.com, at least have friend and friendship, some meaningful words in it. 4. Make your site easier to navigate Another problem, why you want the people to come and see your website? Your website is heavy and when they open it, they wait for an hour to see that it is loading. Don't use extraordinary flash in it. Using some menus having DHTML and javascript usage in them, is better, but the best is simple HTML. You can never make a sitemap with some XML sitemap generator if you have a flash website. People don't come to see, they try to find something useful. 5. Offer quality content and services Quality content means the content, not copied, not illegal and unique. If you sell goods, try to sell some goods which others are offering but not offering in your style. 6. Write better anchor text Image alt text or any alt text which represents something which is not readable for bots. If the image does not show, the text comes to define it. Using this can enhance your SEO and will make crawling bots less confused. 7. Use heading tags appropriately Another mistake. You write like <p>my text</p> and then resize it with font tag or you are using dreamweaver and have no sense of applying text styles. See what it gives to you. Heading one, two, three and you have upto six no. of headings tags like that from H1 to H6. This is what is important. It tells the bot that you are using heading and this is not paragraph text. 8. Optimize your use of images Good point to think about. You have wallpapers to download on your website, and you have all of them in one page. When will the page be loaded and when will the user can see what you have provided him. If you have to include a big image in your web page, try cutting it into pieces, use photoshop slice tool to do it if you are using photoshop, others also do have the same technology for you. Having 100 pages with one image each is better than having one page having all 100 in it. 9. Make effective use of robots.txt Not so important, but can be very important to use robots.txt. It is a text file which should be present in your root directory to tell the bots where to go and where not to see anything. Use it when you don't want something to appear in search results. 10. Be aware of rel="nofollow" for links If you don't want some links to be followed or following those links can damage your website rankings, use the attribute of nofollow. 11. Promote your website in the right ways You can promote your website if you advertise it. Advertising can be with adwords or with adbrite, but it is costly sometimes. If you don't have enough money, you can still advertise it with free ways. See some free ways here at v4website.com/make-money-online06.php. . 12. Make use of free webmaster tools Google has webmaster tools, bing also gives you this option and using them has a different method for each. Just sign in to google webmasters and bing webmaster tools, or others if you like and see what suggestions they give to you. Follow those and your website will get some good marks in SEO. 13. Take advantage of web analytics service Analytics of Google are available at analytics.google.com, this is free and easy to understand. Just get a code, paste it in your website template and you are ready to see what your website is able to do and where from your visitors are coming. See the trends of your traffic and change your strategies and keywords according to that. I hope my description is correct... but feel free to correct me where I am wrong.
nice information regarding on-page SEO. you can also include some good techniques for off-page SEO. but overall information is good. thanks for this.
It depends whether or not you want a page indexed in Google, for example you have a private area in your website and you want it not to be indexed. See the example of this forum, they don't want some pages to be indexed for which they have two methods: 1) Using robots.txt 2) Nofollow
If you want to additionally add to this thread, you can check up the "internet business promoter" and this will broaden your understanding on SEO and website traffic.
It does not mean IGNORE this link nofollow means do not pass page rank! I have a ton of backlinks I see in Google Webmaster Tools that are nofollow. So just going after dofollow links only is not a good idea!
A great tip is to search adwords keyword tool, search good montly searches keywords, and buy links with that anchor, it`s best for SEO. Another tip is to not buy links for only 1 news, to buy for site: Like " news paper " or " news " etc.. Thanks for tips
Ya, you are right. The description can be more good like: Promote your website in the right ways. Don't promote your website in a blog of cooking, while you are selling computer hardware. Look for a related topic and post your advertisement there. That's what I think, but I am just a student of SEO, not a teacher, so everybody is free to criticize this and thus, I will be learning more from you people.
