    It can be quite easy with wordpress, get some SEO plugins, ping plugins, social bookmarking plugins and most importantly regularly post quality unique content. Domain name sometimes plays a part, if your domain name include your niche keyword, you have quite an advantage as well to my believe. Negative side might be having a long domain that is hard to remember.

    That should help greatly.
    SEO Plugin will handle your title, meta, tags.
    SEO Plugin will have the Ping plugin included to ping as many sites you can include to update them when you have new post.
    Social Bookmarking plugin, auto tweet on new post, shortcut to social bookmarking so you can bookmark them with few clicks everytime you have a new post.

    If your niche is really niche and rare, your niche keyword can easily top search engine with those few things I mention above.
