Personal opinion? First off, will it fit your needs? And secondly, do you know you can spend under $600 for a very good laptop, complete with modem?

If it were me, I wouldn't buy that laptop for that price, not without a modem. Plus the description doesn't say if it has cd/dvd drive, or if it is writeable. Or how many USB ports or anything.

Does it come preloaded with any software?

    Just some thoughts ...

I myself use an Acer Laptop and it is fine. But I have heard many people say it is not reliable. And these days you get better ones for a good price. Don;t go for it unless on budget.

I bought an ACER Aspire One netbook and 2 weeks later I had to send it in for repair....that took a month. The thing just died on me.

Very good price though, how big is the monitor? 15 or 17 inch?

That looks like a bulky laptop. If you're someone who is always on the go, I don't think that one will work for you.

It all sounds good, except for these two parts:
    AMD Athlon 64 TF-20 1.6 GHz Processor
512 KB L2 Cache, 667 MHz Bus Speed

For these days, a 1.6Ghz is pretty slow, and only 667MHz bus speed is not very much either. I'd try to find a laptop that has a little bit better values in each of those areas. Acer is a fine brand though, their stuff is pretty inexpensive too.

I guess Acer is the third largest laptop brand with strong hold on the upcoming netbook trend . The configuration is my opinion is not the best one you can get . The processor is an AMD processor with 512 KB L2 Cache . Acer Aspire one with Intel atom processor and Linux comes in the same range . Intel is always recommended over AMD for speed ,technology and long term use .

Have to agree with that as well. Again, it really depends on your usage. I have a 2.1Ghz and occasionally run into slowdown but I do some gaming on this laptop. If all you;re doing is writing and web work, you should be fine.

Then of course we have the memory. Not sure what the specs will be for Windows 7 but 2 gigs maybe low. I have three gigs on this laptop and I have to admit I'm a bit concerned as Vista isn't that quick here.

That a value for money lapi. But my personal opinion don't go for Acer Laptop's as there is problem of LCD cover. The LCD becomes weak in less than a year. Go for any other brand.

It's a pretty good deal. My old Acer laptop was only 1.73 GHz, 533 FSB, and 1.5 GB RAM but I had no problems at all with it. I made movies on it, edited videos, and created websites on it with ease. Go for it, but I must say 9 pounds is pretty heavy for a laptop.
