dcstudio - sorry, looks more like a robber than a crotchety old man. sake7 - still not really right. Both are interesting, but just don't grab attention. MantisArt - I liked the first submission better. unsofi - Not quite there, but a nice try.
DCStudio - Sorry, but I'm not sure what you were trying to do with this new one. It looks more like an angry bull or a devil than a person. And donuts have nothing to do with it.

Sake7... Like the guy with the scarf coming out of the coffee cup a lot, but, he doesn't fit in with the name crotchety. Can you somehow turn him into an older grumpy man? He looks either like a pirate or motorcycle gang guy, which doesn't reflect the right word. Not crazy about the two coffee cups with the long nose, but, that last one has real possibilities. I do have another concern with it, though... will it look alright in black and white? Thanks.

He needs to mostly look older... If you put him in a hat, it should be some kind of old man hat.. like a beat up fishing hat, old man cap, or something similar (don't know that fishing is a great idea, we don't want to confuse people about him being a fisherman instead of just someone old and 'crotchety' That style hat without any kind of fishing stuff on it would be good). A cigar may be more fitting than a cigarette, but, again, that may be harder to make stand out in b&w. The main things are looking old and scowling (which is a type of frown). Hope that helps a bit.
Thank you to everyone who entered this contest. Unfortunately, nothing so far has struck my partners and myself as being quite what we want. We are going to meet soon, and try to come up with something more specific for the type of look and maybe run this contest again. If you have some more ideas, feel free to post them... I'll keep checking from time to time, and I will make an announcement here if we find a winner.
