Google Analytics showing HUGE traffic that does not exist

    Hello DPers,
    Google analytics showing that I got 40,000 visit yesterday but in fact I got around 10,000 only.
    Is this a kind of attack or something auto visiting my site. GA shows that most of them are absolute unique visitors coming from direct traffic

    I use nginx alongside with apache

    I know that I had triple the amount of traffic a couple of times - I looked at the logs - bots were really messing things up big time.

    yeah I have seen this a few times were there in a crazy spike in traffic. Click on the day in question look in "visitor"
    the look at "network location" This will give you the name of the scum bag in my case "road runner holdco llc" Not much you can do really as its a automated bot...

    Its nothing but the bots are visiting your site. There might be option where you can see the GA filtering out bots.

    Probably a bot going nuts I guess... but 30.000 is an awesome difference :(
