I agree there is much to learned in utilizing Facebook ads effectively, but when you do it is a money printing machine, in my opinion.

I agree and disagree with you here. understanding the basics of marketing doesn't really provide that much advertising on facebook. Sure it helps a bit knowing what the customer wants, etc... But for the most part you can advertise effectively on Facebook through trial and error and your brain.

If you want to advertise on facebook it's really the easiest place to get started in PPC and can be super profitable. If you know how to find a picture on the internet, write a few good lines to attract atttention (not even needed because it's picture based anyway) and track your clicks and conversions you'll be set.

Did you test different demographics or with keywords? There are plenty of studies out there that show how FB actually converts better and for cheaper than adwords.

    Just saying...

FB advertising is the best because you can target down to colleges, age, gender almost anything

I have not, nor would I. You might get demographics that would match your products, but it will convert poorly as these ads are randomly served.

I think the main difference between facebook and adsense would be that on facebook you target users based on their profile and generally what they are interested in. While on adsense you can target them based on what they are looking for at the moment. Could make a huge difference because, eg: while I might generally be interested in rock music, I might not be looking to buy a CD at the moment. While on adsense I would usually be looking for something that I am interested in right now (buying a CD).
