Windows vs. Ubuntu

Well, the title kinda says it, Windows or Ubuntu?

I mean yeah Windows is the most common OS for people to use, but i honestly hate it! Not that i'm against Microsoft or something, but i don't like that it has very poor security. These days its very easy to create viruses, and spread them fast. Yeah, you can put an Antivirus program, but sometimes there can be a virus there! I think the safest solution will be Deep Freeze. And it's not just the security problem, it has other bugs, but, lets get back to the point. Windows - Not good ( poor protection ):mad::mad:

Ubuntu ( Linux ) on the other hand, by my personal opinion, has a different and better security system. It works a lot easier, you can install very easy from Terminal, and its superb for programing. But, that just my opinion, lets here yours. :D

    So - Windows or Ubuntu?

Well, I have used Windows and Ubuntu. And after having JUST Ubuntu for a while, I decided to duel boot windows and Ubuntu because they each have their purpose. When I am doing some serious webdesign work, or work like that, I use Ubuntu. But for games, music, and movies, I use Windows.

Basically, Windows sucks if you want to get work done, but if you want to play games all day, then it is your OS.
Ubuntu S U C K S at games and is not very good with music if you like all the fancy features, (although it does well with video, sometimes better than windows) it just doesn't do well with the entertainment aspect. It is however a MASTER at work. By using Ubuntu I SERIOUSLY expanded my knowledge on computers, and Ubuntu is AWESOME. But it isn't ready to go against windows. Not yet. Maybe another 5 years.

Ubuntu has the potential to seriously hurt Microsoft. I see Ubuntu and Mac fighting to be the best in the future and Windows being the little guy. But I see Ubuntu coming up on top because it can be interchanged with windows, whereas for Mac, you have to buy a entire new computer: a Mac computer.

There was something about ubuntu that just didn't feel right. I used it for about a month, and seem to go through phases of using it, but in general the GUI of linux in general just doesn't feel nice for me.

Apart from that it is a nice OS and in time I'm sure it'll be up there with Windows, but for now linux just can't compete for personal/office computers. For servers, it kicks ass :D

Ubuntu is better than Windows for sure. But it is not stable like Windows. So i use debian which is rock solid.

    I want to believe.

But until Photoshop and Dreamweaver go native (without having to use WINE and/or a lot of fkn around), then I simply can't use Linux for work. And no, I'm not going to switch to GIMP or KompoZer/Nvu.

I dual boot XP/EasyPeasy on my EeePC, and I love Linux - but only as an internet/email tool. The minute *Adobe* get onboard, then I'll be there with bells on :D

Linux is far better in many ways but a couple things keep me from using it. First of all games don't support it, though wine is getting to be really good. Also Flash glitches out horribly in fullscreen or any large Flash objects(like the homepage of Hulu).

If you don't play games, Linux would be the perfect solution to everything. There may be some applications you need that are only for Windows but you can easily run a virtual machine under Linux(for pretty much anything other than games and intense stuff).

Ubuntu and other Linux OS arent easy to use and people generally say "they suck" because they dont know how to use them..

If you really know how to use them , then windows doesnt even come close..I myself hate linux and i am a die hard fan of windows..But yes , the power and features of Linux are amazing..

I dont like ubuntu myself..Debian , Centos and Suse are the best ones acc to me..

Well a new version of ubuntu just came out - Karmic Koala. I downloaded right away. And, i'm very very happy about it. And another thing amazed me - the sound! It's unbeliveble. But i agree that ubuntu isn't that good for games, and photoshop, but, still photoshop is a major program. And, besides that, i would still use Ubuntu, before Windows

Me too like ubuntu. But i want to work ( and i can't do a google search for wine, rpm, yum, etc., for everything)

Windows lacks in security, i agree. Just got an odd feeling that, hackers are are targetting only windows because (90% of people use windows) and Mac was boasting about that they had no virus, recently porn site visitors were infected seriously for a simple virus. And Mac official team failed to comment. :)

And people who use ubuntu, do you use only ubuntu or dual boot.?

Let me count people who uses only ubuntu as webmaster.

Hmm. My company of 30 has no use for Photoshop or Dreamweaver and we use Gimp and vim for everything. We have 10 boxes. 7 are FreeBSD. Two are Linux and one is an old one in the corner for XP so we can test in IE. We don't use Windows for anything and haven't for 4 years.

If you use Windows for games then you're not really using it for work. Get a XBox and use *nix to get real work done.

if linux had support for more major apps (such as adobe products, 3ds max, etc.) then linux would have alot more support.

I'm using Ununtu at work and it's great there - safe, stable and there are many good, free tools for web developers. Windows on the other hand is much better for fun like playing games or watching movies.

I just cannot get along with any windows, they are just slow and buggy! Never tried Linux but i think I might have to move my samsung q1 onto it. But what really matters is Leopard osx, that is the best OS ever!
Heres a little joke about windows, 'Computers are like air conditioning, they just don't work when you open windows!' HEHE
