    Hello
So the question everyone asks is – Does domain name extensions have any effect on SEO ?
and is using of (-) in the domain name effect on SEO ?

I'm pretty sure they're both the same in terms of SEO. I would have to say a .COM domain could be more memorable when it comes to unique visitors.

.com is king. plain and simple.

That being said .net gets ranked just a s good as others so it's not really that big of a deal. .org is also a good option because people still think this is for some sort of free organization and not a web marketer.

so u think you-are-idiot is better .. i dnt agree with this bec

    1. It's easy to forget the hyphens when typing a name. Many users are used to typing things like youareidiot.com but not you-are-idiot.com. They'll probably leave out the hyphens and wind up at your competitor's site.

2.When people recommend your site to their friends verbally, having hyphens in your domain name leads to more potential errors than when the name does not contain hyphens. For example, how do you think your visitors will refer to your site if it is named "you-are-idiot.com"? They might say, "I visited youareidiot.com yesterday. It was fabulous." Their friends, remembering that comment later, might type into their browsers "youareidiot.com". Oops.

3.and finally It's a pain in the neck to type.

I too agree that keyword in a url with hyphens works for seo but most of them dont recommend as it creates much confusion with in the users ...

I'd suggest not using spelled-out or roman numerals in domains, as both can be confusing and mistaken for the other

    and coming .com or .net

seems both are equal in weight but good to have .com if not available .net

Okey, seems that you didn't understand the question. The guy is talking about SEO, that comes from Search Engine Optimization. Btw, try some pills for your neck pain, because the search engine won't need them. sorry:p

There isn't any special SEO ties attached to .com or .net. The .com is only just popular, people can type your web address and put .com instead of .net. So its up to you.

Dot net works very well on the search engines for page rank, I always try to buy dot com first and if I can't get the domain name, then I check to see if dot net is available. My last name.com was not available but .net was and I bought it.

Don't forget to Google those coupon codes for a discount when buying domains.

Its unbelievable the rubbish that people give out as 'advice' on here when they obviously dont know what theyre talking about.

    Exactly WHY is .com king?

For one thing, google wont favour one TLD over another just because its .com.
Furthermore, if you are a UK based business, having a .co.uk TLD is definitely advantageous over a .com.
As is having a UK located server.

It follows that a .com TLD is perhaps favoured if you are North American based.

So any answer to the OP question needs to be qualified, and not just claim the pre-emeinence of .com without explanation.

Having hypens in your URL also wont harm in any way, and makes your domain read better semantically.
It also often provides a good way to get your hands on a key word rich competitive domain name.

.com is King. Let me ask you two questions.

    1) How many .net sites can you name?
    2) how many .com's can you name?

In terms of google's view on it you're right it doesn't matter. I have .com's, .net's, .info's and they all rank fine. But .com is the most accepted form from the common man.

In terms of SEO the difference between a .com and .net makes little it's the backlinks and on-site effort that will help you more.

Oh and we weren't talking about .co.uk. BUT if we ARE buy a .co.uk not a .com for UK traffic. but again, the extension only takes you so far.

Hypen "-" is a factor for human not google. SEO is a comprehensive technique for optimized your web / blog. The main factor is link. Hypen "-" is trouble for mistype address in web browser manually.
