Hey! I am a graphic designer and I want to make a small amount of money, say around $100 for a project of mine. I am thinking of reaching that amount by selling templates here and there... What I do not want though, is to create templates that do not sell... So in your experience, is there any particular category, color scheme or anything else that attracts more clients? Please be specific, don't answer "landing pages" rather "finance landing pages" Thankyou
First, if you can learn to design for WordPress you can make a TON! The best WordPress themes are web 2.0 and are graphically intense. Something that may help you is checking out TemplateMonster.com and seeing how many downloads the specific types have and look at what categories they are in.
My suggestion is web-hosting templates. I see hosing templates go for A LOT of money. Every website needs a web host that's why more and more people want to get into the hosting industry and they are prepared to pay big bucks for a nice design.
My opinion is that you should search for sites that have many visitors and to made a classification of top 5. Promote there.

If you want to attract more clients, then you have to be updated designer, learn new trade of designs, question is from where you can learn? just obvious and go through the css galleries, there are many new trade designs, and you can go through the music websites also, like mtv dot com and channel v, they are very unique and updated designers. Careful about Clients needs and use your brain with new concepts of designs and try to give them something new, which they never saw before ! After this you don't need to speak, your work speaks. In opinion, Graphic wise, Website templates that have transparent headers and high resolution backgrounds. I think this points are used by Web 2.0 designers nowadays I think?.
But you see the thing is I don't have clients... That's why I want to create websites that potentially appeal to the mass so people are gonna buy them... If I make something too unique I might put a lot of effort into something that may not sell...
Don't worry if u have no clients. U can find many from here-digitalpoint in Buy, Sell or Trade>Templates section you can sell your own templates. any type, psd, html or whatever. During first time sell some best designs at low price, and thus u can get reputation. or offer something: logo design etc. @ freebies section. You can get big works from here if u r talented.

I am sorry if I sound too harsh but overall I think you would need to put a bit more effort into the design in order to make it sell, the thing is now a days there are way too many web designers and competition is tough. The images you have used look abit out dated and the graphics are nice a good but needs something more. The page overall is way too small I would recommend to add another section to it like a slideshow or whatever for more design inspirations search in google
Hey that's not harsh its just constructive criticism... but I was just going for something simple... I tried posting another hosting layout that had lots more sections and occupied a larger portion of the page, the design was of good quality (like allways ), the price was cheap like $15 or something but still it didn't sell...
yeah full rights... I say that in every post. Maybe I didn't make it clear on my last post but sure as hell pointed that out on my other template. Thanks for reminding me though! I guess that you also have to be lucky to sell stuff... I've seen terrible templates go away for $30... Stuff that had written amateur all over the place...
