If You Earn $100/Day from Adsense on 1 Site, How Much Will You Sell Your Website?

Discussion in 'AdSense' started by Tarakan, Oct 28, 2009.

Just a question. If you only have 1 single site which gives you around $100 per day from Adsense alone, how much is the selling price of such website? Please give me your opinion on the price and what factors do you consider before putting a price to it? Thanks.

I read from a 2006 post by John Chow for Jason Calacanis as quoted below.

4: Jason Calacanis: Weblogs, Inc. – $120,000 per month

Before Jason Calacanis sold Weblogs, Inc to AOL for $25 million, he got the network of blogs making over $4,000 a day from Google AdSense.

Jason would have earned for himself $1,460,000 per year from Adsense. If it is sold for 25 million, that is 17 years earnings from Adsense. Is 17 years Adsense earnings a gauge for selling one's website?

There is a lot more than adsense earnings potential that goes into the calculation of a sites "for sale" value. In the case of his blog networks, AOL probably valued more the user base than the monetary gains produced by the site inquestion.

I have heard that ONE year's earnings should be the price.
Therefore, if the earnings are $100 per day, then the site should sell for $36, 500.

    Agree? Disagree?

Of course, there are other factors, such as site quality. If the site is borderline MFA, it is not worth as much as a site with quality content. MFA sites tend to disappear.
Also, how much daily posting is required/ expected? Do you want to work your butt off every day, of maybe just cruise for awhile?
What is the SERP history? Has the site been going up or going down?
Will the seller provide all the detailed stats that you ask for? Is the seller in a rush to sell?
Is the seller from your country? Have you researched the seller online? Have you studied the whois information?
Is the site "clean", or has there been recent bad activity.
Were links recently purchased? The site may end up being banned.
There are many things to think about.

Also one factor that is looked for is "what is the future development potential / earning increase potential of the website"
Most major deals are calculated based on this factor

I agree with Surf Dude. 10 - 12 month earnings is what I have seen around. But of course it depends a lot on how sustainable the website is in the long run, traffic sources... stuff like that can influence the price either up or down. If you are going to sell your website anytime soon I suggest adding google analytics to it. Don't try to sell using webalizer or statcounter.

Usually people count the price as one year earnings. However that wont be the case for many websites. It would depend on many other factors e.g. popularity, possibility to grow in future, any plan to increase revenue etc etc.

I got several offers to sell my webmaster forum in the past few months. The maximum one was about five times more then yearly earnings.

I wouldn't sell a site that is earning well, no one would, there is such lies regarding site earnings.

People try to offload dead horses.

You cant put a selling price on the daily earnings, it doesn't work like that, theres many important things to be taken into consideration.

Anyone buying/selling sites on the daily, monthly, yearly earnings is not telling the whole story and need to stop and think and get a better understanding of business first.

If i were the investor, i'll not pay more than 24 months, 12 to 16 months is the reasonable price. Don't forget search engine is very uncertain, especially Google, your site traffics might be gone overnight.

let's see...if i could earn $100 a day that's 3k a month and that's 36k a year. I would rather keep that site myself? I think that's common sense. UNLESS the person is willing to pay me for the next 10 years in advance, which is 360k then I will have no problem selling

I would not have a selling price. I'd rather keep getting the $100/day. It's more than enough to live on anywhere in the world, so why not have all my expenses covered and then use the rest of my time to build income for savings and luxuries?

Of course, if the site is a lot of work to maintain, then it's a different story, as there may be better things to do with my time. But that also means it's worth much less.
