How would you market a jewelry site?

    Hey every one,

I just wanted your opinions on how you would market a low-mid cost jewelry site. It is NOT a review site or blog, it is an eCommerce site. Items sell for $10 - $200.

Would SEO and PPC be out of the question since its dominated by the industry leaders and they have the money to muscle any new comer out?

    What would you recommend?

    I really appreciate the help.

    Thanks,
    Omar

industry leaders are spamming the web especially for tiffany jewelery :) I would go for PPC if you do not have a SEO guru.

Going head to head with the market leaders will be difficult, but you can still beat them if you are creative and go for specific niches and long tail SEO keyphrases..."jewelry for teenagers", "gifts for expectant mothers", "mothers day gifts", "jewelry for elderly people".... I dunno...do the keyword research. I bet there are planty of niches you can target without making any changes to your site and many more that you can effectivlty monetize with some small site tweaks.

PPC can be a good way to promote your product if you know how to use it properly. Make sure you choose keyword phrases that are closely related to your product.

Do the SEO, but don't hold your breath. Organic traffic is highly overrated anyway. Do it and then move on to things that actually work much better.

The only real answer is to go where there is little to no competition, create a line of totally different / interesting ads, that also get their curiosity. Then put those ads in other webmasters' sites that have a lot of traffic.

For example: Put an ad in, say, bullz-eye.com.

If you really can't not afford ppc, you'd better spend more time on the SEO.The traffic is still very important. So try
to get more traffic using free way.Disscussing in related forums to promote your website will be a wise choice.

If you don't want to go with SEO and PPC...then you are left with other options like email marketing and viral marketing....

E-mail marketing is a form of direct marketing which uses electronic mail as a means of communication for promoting and introducing a product to an audience. This can provide you huge targeted and potential customers. Since you may be new to email marketing you can take advantage of the various email marketing software and services available in the market...as these would help you to set up your email lists much faster and would also assist you in generating email, monitoring results, and creating contact lists. This would also fit into your limited budget...

You can read about email marketing and about various software and services available in detail on the following link http://emailmarketing-blogger.blogspot.com/

Try to find how your site is offering difference or additional value that is absent in the main competitor sites. Is it personalization, lower cost, longer tail targeted kewords etc. In short words, how can you set yourself apart from the huge muscled competition in order to survive and build a small clientele. Every inch of leverage you get would help you by motivating you to take on the head honchos in mid-air collision mode.

SEO should never be out of question. You can always do some basic search engine optimisation by yourself. SEO is a long term marketing strategy, whereas PPC is rather a short term solution. You can use PPC advertising until SEO starts producing results.

Have you consider using facebook to market your store? You should be able to reach a highly targeted audience there for certain items. It's worth a try.
