Does links in emails (sent to gmail) help with SEO?

    Hello,

We have quite a lot of people that we send emails to (not spam, customers that actually want them). I am wondering if this actually help for SEO purposes (I know it sells directly, so will use them anyway, just wondering).

I.e. Does it help to have a link with the proper anchor text in email? Google will at least be able to see the ones sent to gmail...

    Anyone?

My initial response is 'No'. Google doesn't index emails, therefore it wouldn't be possible to influence the SEO of a webpage/site.

small print *** there is always a possibility i'm wrong, but i'm pretty sure i'm right unless something has changed. imagine how many emails people would send to made up gmail accounts if it influenced seo. (like i said... all small print) :)

    Best,

    Michael

My answer is also no.. otherwise spammers who are sending junk mail to 100s may get good SEO..

A very simple thumb rule to apply when thinking about SEO is that if the content is not public (i.e. can't be accessed without some sort of authentication), spiders will definitely not see it. Since emails are secure (password protected by nature), even if you are accessing them via web mail, spiders have no way of reaching them. Therefore they can't help with SEO.

Now on the other hand if ou say something like. Please tell your friends to Link to us and include your link you may gain something out of it. I have picked up links just by having a catch phrase in my email signature. So your answer is Yes and no ..

No, I don't think so. I think it is obvious that Google could not log into your email accounts to pick up such links. :)

    Have a nice day,

@AirForce1 has right, Google boot can`t read into people`s email to cache the information. There are private informations.
So the links from emails doesn`t help you on SEO.

No chance. As others have said, would be highly manipulatable (is that a word) if that was the case, and one weak ass algo.

Only in the most infinitesimal measure that traffic can boost serps and if you are sending hoards of emails the recipients clickthroughs may help you just a bit.

Otherwise, the backlinks absolutely don't help. They must be present on a hosted indexable domain page.

The answer to your question is no... Since google does not index emails, and link popularity is pulled from google's index, then it would be IMPOSSIBLE for emails to impact and SEO efforts. Good question...

It surprises me that so many people were unsure of the answer, and answered with "I don't think so" or "not to my knowledge" or whatever. When you don't know the answer to something, don't try to answer it, you only confuse the person who is asking the question. Jeesh...

No, it will not be indexed in Google. Links on emails can be considered more of an SMO (Social Media) than SEO. Because you get traffics from interacting with people instead of organic search engine results
