Will Google penalize a site for having adult advertisers?

I'm curious to know if Google penalizes sites for having adult advertisers?

We have had an amazing offer from someone who wants to advertise an adult product on one of our sites (a site which is not adult).

I'm not sure if we should accept this as I'm worried about getting the site penalized...

The site in question receives over 120,000 unique visitors per month so its not something we want to play with... But the offer is very good...

Would it be safer to offer them a banner or a text link? Or best to just steer clear?

Putting on adult links is not a good idea, unless your site it adult one. If your site is marked as adult on Google, then you would loose lot of SERP traffic. So I would stay away from adult and gambling links.

It makes some difference only when you put adsense on your sites which is again TOS of adsense..
otherwise adult sites are indexed at google..

No you won't get penalised for this, but you wouldn't be able to display google adverts linked to Adsense. That is the only penalty but I'm sure you don't need this anyway

Stay away? Linking to a non-penalised adult or gambling site won't harm your ranking.

It's only an issue if you're using AdSense.

If you are not an adult site, why would you sell adult products?

Stick to your vertical and sell products that your readers will use. Plus, adult sites are seen very differently by google, and they actually run using different algorithms, so you don't want to get caught up in all that anyways.

A good workaround is just nofollowing the links to the affiliate pages and it won't be a big deal at all. But before you jump into such a touchy venture, you may want to think about your visitors first.

if your site is not an adult site i would suggest that you should palce an adult content on it. It is ok if your content is adult otherwise it is a bad idea.

wow ok thanks everyone but now I'm more confused than before....

I'm not worried about my visitors. The advert is not offensive but it would be categorized as ADULT.

All I care and worry about is how Google will see this. I see many of you recommend making the banner/link "no follow". Is that really ok? I'd really like to know if there is something out there from Google... TOS maybe? Webmaster guidelines?

Oh and I received an infraction for posting in the wrong section? Anybody care to explain how a thread asking about Google shouldn't be in Google section? I see it is now in SEO... Erm, please clarify what this has to do with SEO? I'm interested in knowing something about Google not about SEO....

Use nofollow at the banner and you will be fine. Worry about your visitors not google.

Google may not penalize your site, but your potential customer may. If was looking for lawnmowers or patio furniture and found a site with adult links on it I would turn away immediately because it would appear spammy to me.

It will never be favorable to show off adult contents on a non adult sites. That may be one of the reason why Google also filter out the adult contents from their search results by default.

Some bad advice going off here.

Take a look at the site you are linking to

    Is it a "bad neighbourhood"

Or is it just an adult neighbourhood.

Both have the potential to harm your SERPS

In my point of view U will not penalize. But I suggest U that If your site is not related to ads then never put those ads on your website.

Just a couple of text links shouldnt do any harm. I would take the risk but I dont know what Google will think about it whether to ban your site on the basis of this or not. But I know adsense is not allowed on sites with adult contents.
