Tricky question… that’s up to Google’s algorithms. Best thing to do is focus on good SEO and have patience.

personally, i DONT think it exists, or at least some aspects of it dont
but having said that, i do know some people and have seen a lot here on dp, in regards to google putting new websites search rankings down for quite a bit of time

    so i really dont know
for example, my website at the moment, (m-w-2.com), is not coming up in google AT ALL if i search for m-w-2.com but i am indexed, but i think its because i have done nearly no seo
so, its a weird thing, sandboxing

    believe me it does exists
just try this make a new site get 1000-2000 1 keyword 1 page links from your established site (unrelated)
that will get you sandboxed easily

I social bookmarked a new site using around 25 social bookmark sites, and used the same anchor text for all bookmarks. I ranked as high as position 2 for about a week and a half, then I suddenly dropped in rankings and now I'm nowhere to be found for that keyword.

Sandbox exists! I believe my site got penalized for Google bombing.

Google Sandbox used to be big time but i have just observed that it is now getting slow in penalizing new sites.Just take a little slow in doing offpage optimization and when your site gets a little older, maybe three months or so then you speed up a bit and then follow the "constant velocity" thing in SEO.;)

I think it's 3-8 months or so. During the time that you are sandboxed just keep building your site up and getting backlinks till your website shows up. You will show up ranked higher than before too.

AFAIK, "sandboxing" and "penalizing" are not identical terms.

"Aandbox" means that by low-frequency search terms you’ll get traffic from search engines, but mid-frequency and high-frequency search terms you won’t have passes from search engines at all until you are "out of the sandbox".

In my case, the sandbox effect took place for four months.

    Cheers,
    Sty

Most of my sites were sandboxed. Most of which gotten out of it within one month at the longest.
