Google Adwords charging for deleted ad words

Discussion in 'Google AdWords' started by Tamarack, Oct 20, 2009.

Check your adwords accounts! Google actually has a line item for deleted adwords you can see (if they are doing it) when you list the keywords right from the main campaign tab. They have been charging me for months for deleted adwords!

But of course I am not worthy of phone support even after $20,000 of clicks!

    The arrogance!

the screen shot shows my all time spending on this account.
look at the bottom, it says $2,079.13 was charged for deleted keywords!
I don't delete them often. The only condition plausible may be if an ad is clicked right when you are deleting the keywords while the system updates. Maybe a couple a bucks here and there but $2K!

    Uh, I think you're confused.

This report you're showing us is obviously a long period of time you selected, I'm guessing you selected "all-time". During that period, you deleted some keywords so the report is showing you the stats you accumulated on those deleted keywords before you deleted them. If you ran a report selecting a time period after you deleted keywords, that line would not show.

    mr lucid,

A reasonable assertion but in fact take a look at this one:
    http://www.idahoresortrentals.com/adwords2.jpg

It spans only one day and show charges for deleted adwords.
There are other campaigns on other days with the same thing.
I do not delete keywords very often. There is no reasonable explaination for this.

I've always found it difficult to track my adwords. Are there any good third party tracking tools?

Go into your account panel and DELETE those words!

I have had this happen to me even on Yahoo and MSN!

    Cheers.

Do you see any stats for those deleted keywords?

Probably some sort of a glitch but contact Google just to be on safe side.

I have contacted google but since this is done only by email it will take a while as we go abck and forth when thier answers don't adress the question. The only possible explaination at this point is that charges accure for DAYS after a keyword is deleted. But their help pages they are so proud of don't say that. These are search charges not content but I do have it set to use "google search partners". Maybe it takes days for click from them to show up and then they are not attributed to the days the clicks occured? That would be very sloppy and inaccurate reporting. I will post an answer if I ever get one. In the mean time I am enjoying saving money with my ads paused. I can do this because we have great serps on google and we have a high level of seasonality to our business and this is a slow time.

from google "support" email following up on a chat session

    ------------------------
Thank you for chatting in yesterday about receiving clicks and impressions
and accruing costs for keywords that you had previously deleted.

I've looked into this with our technical team and there appears to be a
technical issue going on with this matter, but our specialists are still
investigating the nature and cause of the technical issue and I will
update you when I have more information from them.

Please rest assured that if necessary, you will be credited fully for any
costs accrued on keywords running after you deleted them. I hope to have
another update on this issue for you tomorrow. I really do appreciate your
    patience.

Let us know the outcome...that is some bad karma tactic. Imagine all the accounts all over the world that don't notice things like this?

Ok this is getting interesting. I have seperate cases on this with each "googler" give me different answers

    1st One:
Thank you for your patience as our specialists investigated the matter.

This issue was caused by a recent change in our back-end system where
automatic matching clicks are attributed to "deleted keywords" instead of
"automatic matching". Our technical team has found a fix and we are
working on it. Please be assured that this was just a technical issue
where we attribute the clicks wrongly, but those clicks weren't triggered
    by deleted keywords.

    My response:
Your explanation here seems highly improbable in my case.

Please examine October 19 - campaign Idaho resort rentals - ad group - Idaho resort rentals

If what you say is true, then automatic matching delivered 15 times the impressions that the keywords alone did and all of the clicks. I would really like to know what those matches were if that was the case. I do not see in the report function where you can find out what search phrase exactly triggered an automatic match.

(that adgroup shows on 20 impressions and 0 clicks for the keywords but the "deleted keywords/automatic matching" shows 306 and 4 clicks)

The other googler is still awaiting a response from the "specialists"

Look, you want google to take notice.. go on the best blogs and email the best bloggers who get huge amounts of traffic.

Write everything on a blog and someone special will take notice. Let the best of the guys on the web notice what you're saying. Put ads and make money at the same time. Why waste your precious time infighting with someone so stupid to not understand what you've to say. You're special. Just be cool man. Chill..

Don't rebel with google. Just let them know you're posting the stuff on your blog. See what they respond. They will be shocked. The internet is viral. Frankly, google may have control over the internet. But it has absolutely no control over people's minds.

What is social media? it's conversation between two people or two groups of people which the whole world notices. Dude, it's media. Let the offline media take notice. People want "masala" - spicy hot stuff to read in newspapers and media wants just that to publish in their newspapers.

But dude.. do this only when they aren't helping you and it's getting worse.

If it gets resolved let them know your dis-satisfaction.

I believe 1 single customer can actually change the way google thinks. If you think you're the 1, just do it.

Any bloggers/blogger sites you suggest I write too/on?

I think I already have a victory in they acutally admitted having a technical problem.

I am not done with this. I do need to do my 3 jobs though in the mean time - this is an effort that is done on a time available basis.
