Good luck bloodmage478, you are in for a huge learning curve

Try google first it helped me get by in the beginning - then ask specific questions here

BTW If you have a semi managed service the host is very helpful to us newbies

What exactly did you want to download and install on your VPS?

Most VPSes come with a control pannel package be it PLESK or CPANEL or somethign else.

I strongly suggest you use it. it makes configuring a VPS for web super easy and whats more you dont need to be a computer expert to do so.

    Look into it

    i forgot cpanel
but plesk is on port 8443 so just go https://YOURIP:8443

What you need to get is someone to manage your server, or, at least set it up for you in the first place. If you plan on hosting people on this server, and, you know little about Linux, I would look into a server management company.

First thing i would advice in your server is install firewall, then you can install php apache, mysql and others.

    check this out: http://mysql-apache-php.com

Depending on your level of experience, you could be in for a big challenge.

articles.slicehost.com is the best VPS tutorial site I know of. They keep things updated constantly.
