Your competing with another guitar course site that pays 75% commissions and they are pretty well established already.

I think you should at least increase your commissions to 75% to get affiliates interested because honestly I currently don't see any reason why they would pick your product over the other one.

I would agree that increasing the commission to 75% would be more beneficial to you. If I have traffic interested in learning guitars, says 500 hops a day, and I split test your competitor and yourself, even if your site converts better, the higher payout with the other product would negate any benefit to promoting your product.

The other product could be swamped with affiliates because of the payout and the fact it converts!!

I highly doubt you will get anyone promoting it at 50%...

Care to through up a screenshot of conversions?

As a vendor, you are going to want your site to be swamped with affiliates.

Also, if there are already a lot of affiliates promoting the other website, this wouldn't make them want to promote your page more. The fact that both of the websites are about guitars means that all of the affiliates are competing with each other no matter what website they are promoting.

And this means the affiliate will want to promote the website that will pay them more commission and that converts the best.

have to agree with the others. your never going to attract a solid base of affiliates offering 50%.

as an affiliate, i would never promote a product offering 50%

and as a vendor, i would never offer my affiliates a measly 50%, because truth is, I wouldn't have many affiliates :D

    don't be greedy.

keep in mind, when an affiliate makes a sale for you, you did next to nothing to get that, the affiliate did all the work of sending targeted traffic to you

Seriously dude, this is just advice. If you think the 25% difference between 50% and 75% is the difference between making big money and little money than you're sadly mistaken.

On the vendor side the difference is between $13.50 and $22.60 per sale. Oh man, $9 big ones. You'll be rolling in the dough.

It's your prerogative what you choose to list it at, but you do owe it to yourself to test (as you should be doing). Everyone here is telling you (from experience) that you'll probably find that you'll end up with more sales and more money taking a smaller cut.

Despite the fact that you think "The other site is swamped with affiliates", it really doesn't matter. Affiliates get traffic for keywords. If the niche is swamped, it's swamped if the traffic is going to you or your competitor. As an affiliate I'm interested in dollars and how much I'm going to make. I'm not interested in how much you make. If you want affiliates you have to give them a reason *cough* money *cough*.
