Click this link(it's a .gov site!). Scroll down to the PHP variables table - you will see 2 clickable DoFollow links to my brand new blog (1 day old) with "Jimmy Crabb SEO" as the anchor text.

I can create millions of these links on thousands of different high authority sites.

If you want me to create some super powerful links to your site for free, look here.

This won't be available for long!

So exploiting someone elses servers you think is a good thing? I wouldn't touch this with a barge pole because you don't have their permission to do this!

It's not a server exploitation - the link itself creates a dynamic page which is spiderable and indexable by Google. The page never really even exists until googlebot follows your link and it feeds powerful link juice back to your site.
If people don't update their PHP software somebody will take advantage of this vulnerability - will it be you or your competition?

This isn't about PR - it's about link authority and .gov and .edu sites pass a LOT of authority. Yes - that particular link is a Rusian government site but when you know the technique you can target just about any country.

Wasting time? I've got a truck load of Google #1s that disagree.

Remember - the most powerful SEO tactic ever is TESTING!

That is the poor mentality and thinking that gives some SOE professionals a bad name - lets exploit someone's server because they haven't upgraded it!

Hmm, I will let my competition crawl down the immoral / illegal routes I think! I get a good name for myself by following guildelines (strictly) - not cheating my way thought!

interesting technique. I might try it out on one of my disposable sites.

I hope everyone that takes this offer up realises that they have to send links to the created pages or else google won't spider them.

If google doesn't spider them they won't count for anything.

Yup - that's part of it. You can simply list your created pages in blog posts, forum posts or whatever as long as they get spidered.

I thought it was pretty funny :D I'm not sure how a .gov site could have been so dumb as to leave a hole on their site like that.

@ EvcRoSorry - I can show you all or nothing. This is too powerful to give away on an open forum.

@ markn26 - you wo't believe how many .gov sites are open. There are hundreds of them!

You already gave it away, its not that hard to use Google search operators and find vulnerable websites with PHP Version 4.* and with URLs that include *test.php/ or *phpinfo.php/.

As far as i remember from some other case, Google treats differently links with injected URL, like the one in the example. Have you seen PR growth as a result of this technique?

Well, sooner or later Google will catch this and tweak its algo to penalize sites using such methods. So I wouldn't use this as a part of my long-term SEO strategy.

But having said that, it sounds like a great sneaky way to boost a throw-away site meant to generate short-term gains.

    Wow cool trick.
I would definitely not use this on my longterm SEO projects, but for short term projects this might be good.

Thing is, if you type this into google ...

    intitle:phpinfo inurl:href

phpinfo is something this technique automatically puts into the title ... href is one of the necessary components of the construction of a link dynamically using this technique ...

Google shows 264 results for me, of which (from what I counted) only about 40 were an actual indexed phpinfo page (the remainder of the pages were forums pages with someone trying to use a forum to execute the trick).

After examining all 40 pages that google actually indexed, I found that not a single one of them got indexed properly.

So ... regardless whether this is a good trick in theory or not, google doesn't seem to ever index a properly executed page ... either there is a character in the URL that google won't index, or they know about this trick already and have already fixed them to not be indexed with that kind of url.
