Your news is wrong, this is agaisnt thier rules and any editor found doing this apparently gets kicked out?

whats the big deal about getting your site into dmoz anyway? my sites do well without being listed in dmoz I dont get why people waste thier time or even pay to get listed

If you find an editoir, beware, it might just be one of us that sets up traps and when you fall in you will get banned for life.

The confused smile is accurate. You say the news is wrong (editors don't take money for a listing) and then you say editors taking money for a listing are kicked out.

    Sort of a paradox.

Who gets kicked if no editor is taking money for a listing? Rules are there for a reason. If there is a rule against taking money for a listing, there are editors taking money for a listing.

Go to any freelance sites like scriptlance and you will find many DMOZ senior editors who are ready to list any site in any category for about $100. ;)

Then they will be kicked out easily then. :)
Zero ethics. DMOZ is not to bring money for the editors buts we work for the sake of fun and passion related to each of our categories.

If this was true, instead of 200 senior editors, there will be may be around 20 left. ;)

The funny thing is that while DMOZ apologizers claim to be against bribing, they won't think twice about bribing others. Many years ago when I started to post in WPW forum, I used to get offers that they will list my sites if I don't post and when that didn't work, they bribed a moderator there to get me banned and that was the reason I started to post in digital point.

    Do what?

On that time the DMOZ editors offering me bribe didn't know that I am an editor myself. It was only in DP that later I revealed that. ;)

Maybe there is DMOZ editor here. I have been submitting to DMOZ for more than 6 months and nothing happen. I know our site is quality because it is corporate. I have follow all the written rules and requirement. What really is the reason why I could not get approval.

    Do they seriously do that?

honestly, the editors time would be better spend LISTING WORTHY SITES rather then looking for non-worthy ones.

It's sad that so much time is wasted looking on the outside for corruption while little is being done about what's inside.

I was a dmoz editor and got banned for over promoting my site (3 links instead of 1) it's been 5years but I have a hard time believing that anyone would get away with this for long

There are editors self promoting sites with several links. They were reported and nothing happens.
As you should know by now, DMOZ rules apply only for some people.

How can you make such a statement when the poster before you is alledging that he was an Editor, that he abused his permissions (by unfairly promoting his own sites) and as such was immediately removed from the directory?

Now I dont know if his statement is true or not, but if it is, then this destroys your statement instantly :)

No, it doesn't destroy my statement. May be my statement was a little too much for you. But I am glad I have the chance to explain it to you:

He was banned five years ago for self-promotion. In the present, there are editors self-promoting their sites and they don't get banned. An abusive editor banned is not the same that all the abusive editors banned.

    Honestly, how old are you?
