Actually, he said "most" have. I think eXe was just being realistic about the times we live in. He never said "we all have" hotlegg. Like I clarified to eXe after he made that post, I will be keeping an eye on my son and guarentee he won't be getting involved in anything shady. He's a smart kid with a level head on his shoulders.

Thanks for contributing to the thread though.

Any other ideas for a solid starting point for a kid his age you guys?

Teach him how to blog. Spend the $10 and get him a domain your hosting account. Wordpress is easy to use and all the fun stuff you can do with it makes it a great place to learn.

Depends on what he is going to do. Has he told you what he plans to do?

He has 4 blogs, but he isn't sure whether he'd want to monetize them or not. I offered to let him run a campaign from one of the CPA Networks I belong to, but he said he's looking to earn more directly with his writing rather than writing blog content and then waiting to build up blog traffic.

    Kids

Well most kids at this age are already corrupt :)

As long as your kid is well educated, you have no reason to worry...

At his age i think that he is way to small to think about making money, he should concentrate on studying/school.

There is plenty enough time for him to do both money and studying/school...

Why else do parents send their kids to hobbies?

Weird? that's an odd comment. I don't think you even read the thread hotlegg before making this ignorant post. I already stated that he likes to write and is looking for something online where he can use his writing skils. He would like to work doing what I do online with Associated Content, but they have an 18 and over age limit.

My wife and I are looking for opinions of fellow DPers of where (as a 14 yr old) he can get a solid start with monetizing his writing skills.

Thanks again for all those that are actually trying to help!

Here's my take... And i'm saying this because I started learning HTML when i was in gradeschool, it all started with a research paper. I've tried flipping websites, writing content, and now I'm a web developer.

Ducati it seems that writing content can pay the least unless you know how to make good money with it. I never got good rates. If you could teach your kid how to develop and grow sites flipping sites may not be a bad way to earn some money. If he shows a bit of interest with actual development, if he develops enough skills he may be able to make some money on ThemeForest selling custom themes and scripts.

That's my opinion, good luck with it!

You should let your son make money on the internet. Some of the brightest internet marketers I know are 14-16 years old. Don't let age get in the way of business. Just make sure that he gets his priorities straight as well!

I'm undecided what I would do if I was the Dad. At 14 you should be enjoying life. If they take internet business so seriously at 14, will they burn out at 30?

I think it's good to develop certain skills when your young, but I wouldn't be taking it too seriously.

Well I think you should teach him first...at least the basics of Web marketing. A few days later let him try to figure things out by himself. I ran out of words when my three years old daughter shut my laptop down on her own a few weeks ago. Kids are capable of miracles :) Let him but just keep an eye so he doesnt get involved with scammers!

I think you should try to let him do so because making money online its not at all a wrong thing.

Why not let him have a try? When he realize the difficulty in making money, he will work harder on his study.

Don't do this. Being scammed or wasting one's time would dissapoint anyone - even a 14yr old child. And I bet his son has lots of better things to do than earn 60 cents or a buck per hour.
